The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic is based on the light novel series “Chiyu Mahō no Machigatta Tsukai-kata: Senjō o Kakeru Kaifuku Yōin” or The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic: Recovery Team Running Through the Battlefield in English. The anime’s site dropped an enticing teaser visual and promotional video through which they revealed the anime staff and release date.
With the promo video released, we can somewhat expect what will grace our screens next year. The animation and quirky characters are to be praised but what caught our attention was the intriguing plotline. It seems the isekai zone of anime has been recently obsessed with the healing magic trope. Redo of the Healer is a 2021 anime that features healing magic, but we can expect The Wrong Way to Use Magic to approach the concept differently.
How often do we get to see a comedy side of a fantasy story? It’s a refreshing take on the traditional method of storytelling when it comes to magic, other worlds, and when things don’t go the way it’s intended. The countdown has finally begun for the release of this anime!

The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic Anime Announced
Takahide Ogata takes the director’s chair for The Wrong Way to Use Magic anime at Studio Add and Shinei Animation. This anime makes it on the list of anime produced by two studios! Shogo Yasukawa will be handling the scrips, and Yōko Tanabe will be in charge of character designs.
The light novel debuted in March 2014 with its online serialization on the novel publishing Shōsetsuka ni Narō website. Perhaps recognising its potential, Media Factory took over the light novel and has published twelve volumes till 2020. Adding to the series, a manga adaptation was created. Illustrated by Reki Kugayama, the manga was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Seinen manga magazine in 2017.
The Plot of The Wrong Way To Use Magic
In this isekai anime, the ordinary high school student Usato’s life takes a turn when he accidentally gets thrown into another world with the student council president and classmate, Kazuki and Suzune, respectively. However, it seems as if Usato wasn’t intended to be transported, and now he finds himself in a place he isn’t supposed to be in.
Suzune and Kazuki were called to help defeat the Demon King’s army, but Usato lacks any ability to contribute until they discover he can use healing magic. Usato is kidnapped by the life-saving corps leader, Rose, who coerced him into joining her group. Now, Usato has to endure their grueling training and find his way around using his healing magic in all the wrong ways.

The first volume is mainly a character and setting introduction. You get a glimpse of what happened in the past, which, in a way, tries to foreshadow later arcs in the manga. The series lies in the middle of comedy and fantasy; that is to say, it’s never incredibly funny or intensely serious.
Reviewers claim the humor is stale and done before. At the least, Reki Kugayama did a fantastic job in making the illustrations add some life to the otherwise monotonous story. The first volume of the manga, spanning 195 pages, covers three-quarters of the light novel, which results in only one action scene in the whole 195 pages.
Readers come across statements that don’t take place, such as Usato levelling up, but he doesn’t make any progress. Supporting characters are given minimal attention allowing readers to forget about their existence easily. However, the manga illustration might just be enough to pull more audience to the series.
