Rei doesn’t look like the typical shoujo manga protagonist, with her broad frame, boy cut and tomboyish demeanor. One day, Rei is confronted by Hanna, a beautiful student who asks Rei to stay away from Hansum. Irritated by Hanna’s words, Rei becomes aggressive and pins Hanna against a wall, asking her to back off. To her surprise, Hanna falls in love with Rei and asks Rei to date her instead! What will Rei do when the antagonist falls in love with her?

Not So Shoujo Love Story: Chapter 70 Recap

In the previous chapter, Rei asks Gertrude about what makes a girl in shoujo manga stand out and the attributes they possess. Gertrude tells Rei about a few defining features she likes in a shoujo protagonist and answers her question about hair too. Usually, shoujo protagonist has long flowing hair which stand out but there are protagonists with shorter hair too. Rei listens to it all, confused about her hair and if she should grow them out.

The next day, Rei goes to a hair parlor to look at some wigs and try them out and ascertain how long hair would look on her. Her dog, Taro runs out of the shop all of a sudden and Rei ends up meeting Hanna outside the parlor. Both Rei and Hanna along with Taro decide to go on a walk together. Looking at Hanna, Rei can’t help but think that Hanna fits perfectly as a girl out of shoujo manga with her long hair and feminine demeanor.

Other than Hanna’s weird habits, she is the perfect protagonist for a romance novel. Rei and Hanna sit down to talk after Taro falls asleep, tired from running around and playing fetch. Rei tells Hanna how she is like a shoujo girl because of her long hair and Hanna shares that she had quite short hair as a child. Hanna even shows Rei a picture of her from childhood where she had unkempt and unmanageably wavy hair.

Hanna shares that her parents preferred to doll her up after someone mistook her for being homeless. Rei also shares that she had long hair as a child, opposite of Hanna. Both Hanna and Rei share an intimate moment and Hanna tells Rei that Rei’s short hair make her look beautiful and suits her very well. The next day, Rei trims her hair to the usual length again and says that she likes her hair shorter anyway.
