ABC’s The Good Doctor is about to close another season, with Shaun finally becoming a dad to his significant other. The medical drama tells the story of a doctor with poor social skills due to his autism as he faces his personal relationships and work. Executively produced by House’s David Shore and now at the conclusion of the latest season, the show continues to captivate audiences with its neurodivergent character as he navigates through life.
Ahead of the last episode, we see that Shaun is preparing to become a father, and while we don’t see what’s underneath, many other challenges appear along the way, as Lea has some expectations and is communicative of them all the while things at the professional front aren’t doing so well because Shaun has a hard time accepting patient’s decisions.
The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 21 Recap
We begin the next to last episode of this season with Lea. She is making last-minute plans for the birth of their baby. She asks Shaun if he has heard from Glassy. Glassy might be mad at Shaun for giving Audrey his scans behind his back.
Audrey walks into Aaron’s room and shows him his scans, which show that he had a stroke. Later, we see someone in the emergency room because of a car accident. His daughter says that he has been acting strangely for the last six months, so he orders an MRI just in case. Shaun goes into Aaron’s room and tells him that he may have saved his life. He doesn’t know what he’ll do, but he’ll let Aaron know.

More Tests Required
Aaron goes to see Audrey, and she tells him that until they do more tests on him, she doesn’t want him to do any surgeries, and he tells her that if she doesn’t want him to run the business, she should fire him or he will sue her.
Shaun tells his patient that, according to the MRI, he has a tumor in his brain, which is changing his personality. In other words, his daughter was right. The patient decides not to have surgery because he doesn’t want to go back to how he was before.
Complicated Patient
Marcus and Alex sit down with Nico’s parents and tell them that Nico isn’t making enough platelets and that he might need palliative care because he is so sick. His mother will let it go, but his father won’t. Aaron won’t hear about Shaun’s patient from Aaron. Then Aaron gets mad and tells Shaun that he shouldn’t have gone to Audrey in the first place. Aaron finally gives in and agrees to talk to the patient.
Shaun’s patient hesitates. “Would you rather die than go through with the surgery?” asks Shaun. The patient says he was a bad father. He fears surgery will take him back to that place. He’s scared he’ll lose the close relationship he has with his daughter. Aaron chimes in, telling him that the brain is a curious thing. If he strives to be the best person he can be, he might maintain his current level. Shaun’s heart leaps – the patient relents.
Aaron goes into Audrey’s room and tells her that he doesn’t want Shaun working on the case because he is just waiting for him to mess up, which makes him nervous. She says, “Okay, I’ll take Shaun’s place.”
When Shaun goes to see Aaron, he tells him that one of his patients held hands with Aaron’s daughter. Aaron tells Shaun that he made him look bad in front of his coworkers in the operating room. Aaron tells Shaun to leave him alone when he says he doesn’t know what to do. Then Lea calls and tells Shaun that the peanut will be early. He looks around to tell Aaron, but Aaron is no longer there.
