Historically if we look at the 1920s, it was not really considered to be one of the most flourishing periods. Rather, it was quite distressful. This western drama is based upon the era of the 1920s, especially focussing on the period of 1923, when the stock markets crashed down in the world and America especially suffered from an economic crisis known as the Great Depression. The prices of even the basic products were high, people were not living but rather surviving on the bare minimum, and most importantly, the inflation rate was high. The period was significant to the history of the world, and it inspired some of the greatest movies, shows, and books.
The show particularly follows the Dutton Family. The show portrays the hardships and uncertainties they faced during the period of Prohibition, followed by the Great Depression, and all of this taking place before the 1929 Stock Market Crash. The show is actually a prequel to the very well-known show “Yellowstone,” which is also based on the Western world and also follows the Dutton family.
In Yellowstone, we get to see the Dutton family living in Montana living a comparatively greater life as is shown in 1923. They are the owners of a large ranch which is popularly known as The Yellowstone, hence the name. The show’s popularity was a great contribution to why 1923 has been gradually growing among the fans of the show. the show is created by Taylor Sheridan and all the episodes are also directed by Sheridan.

Recap of Episode 4
The episode begins with sad and grim background with the deaths that took place in the rifle ambush. These battles end up killing Elizabeth’s father and a whole lot of other cowboys. The surviving members included Elizabeth herself, Jacob and Jack, who are wounded severely but somehow manage to live. Cara is asked by Jacob to represent him in the biweekly meeting of the cattle owners as he himself cannot go.
He wants her to make a strong case in regard to the security of their territory. She does the same and even succeeds at getting all the cattle owners to meet a month later, hopefully, by that time, Jacob and Jake will also recover and make the necessary arrangements for the meeting.
Then the minerals rights are also transferred to Donald Whitfield by Creighton as he wishes to acquire more money in order to take revenge upon the Dutton family. He goes on a killing rampant as he kills more cowboys in Wyoming. Later on, Teonna kills Mary in her sleep by suffocating her in her sleep, hence declaring war. Cara’s letter finally reaches Africa after a total of ninety days, stating that they require help at the ranch and there is a war going on at the moment.
The episode was considered to be heavy and very intense due to its very war-like themes and the amounts of deaths that take place. Indeed the episode was a rollercoaster ride.
