It was in 2007 when DC launched the DC Animated Original Movie Universe that resembled more to DC Comics and also did not let down the expectations of the diehard fans of the franchise. They started off with stand-alone movies in 2007 like Superman: Doomsday, Wonder Woman, and Batman: Under The Red Hood. Later in 2013, DC shifted to a single continuity film series divided into 16 parts, known as the DC Animated Movie Universe. Today we will discuss the latter and also look at where the DC Animated Movie Universe began and how you can watch the movies in the chronological order of storyline.
DC’s rival Marvel had already released a list of movies to start off their cinematic universe with movies such as The Avengers, with the entire plot of the Infinity Saga decided by then. Marvel had streamlined their movies and when they’d be released and which movies would be in order before DC started their DC Animated Movie Universe. Marvel went on to release numerous blockbuster movies during that time and have now turned its focus towards releasing Marvel TV Shows after the end of the Infinity Saga.
Similar to Marvel, DC also started coming out with Movies like Man of Steel, but it did not enjoy the same success as Marvel movies did. DC also came out with Suicide Squad in 2016 but the movie was a recipient of quite harsh reviews from its fans and critics which forced DC to move back to standalone films and animated movies. It has hence worked out in their favor as the animated movies have faced immense success in comparison to live-action movies that are still dominated by Marvel Cinematic Universe.
DC always believed that their animated movies would be successful as it accurately represents the DC Comics’ story and dark background with a reboot of the comic series as well which gave them the opportunity to increase content for both comics as well as animated movies. So the DC Animated Movie Universe kicked off in 2013, with Justice League: Flashpoint being the first movie from the 16-part movie arc. Let us now look at the chronological order of the DC Animated Movie Universe and from where you need to start to follow that order.

However, this proved an already unanimously agreed point that DC has produced far better comic-accurate animated movies than Marvel and covered almost all genres in its animated movies with also including adult/mature content that Marvel is still hesitant to do so. DC fans have always appreciated animated movies, and with the end of this 16-part movie arc, the fans eagerly await what the future holds for the DC Universe.
