Roronoa Zoro is a beloved character from One Piece. He is a member of the Straw Hat Pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy. He joined the Straw Hat Pirates as its first crew member and is their vice-captain. He is revered for his strength, confidence, and his dedication towards the Straw Hats and Luffy. Zoro is set out to become the world’s greatest swordsman, a promise he made to his late childhood friend Kuina. As he sets on his journey to becoming the greatest swordsman, Zoro has been known to say many iconic quotes.
Zoro uses a three sword style called Santoryu Ogi, a style he developed. After Kuina’s death, he asked for her sword, the Wado Ichimonji. He prefers to keep this sword in his mouth while using the three sword technique. His power doesn’t come from any Devil fruit. It’s just years of training and hard work, thus making him one of the most likable characters.
Let’s take a look at some of the iconic quotes by Roronoa Zoro.
1. If It’s A Fight He Wants, Then I Won’t Back Down
Zoro says this in the Thriller Bark arc in episode 376 titled ‘Kuma’s Nikyu Nikyu, Power That Deflect Everything’. In this episode, Kuma demands to fight Zoro. Almost all Straw Hats are lying unconscious and are tired due to their fight with Gecko Moria earlier. Zoro suddenly says this dialogue and gets ready to fight Kuma. Usopp tries to talk Zoro out of fighting Kuma, but Zoro doesn’t listen to him and prepares his swords to fight Kuma.
2. Nothing Happened
This is probably the coldest quote by Zoro in One Piece. The Straw Hats fought Moria earlier and were drained. Just when they thought everything was over, Kuma appeared to take Luffy away. Zoro intervenes and tries to fight off Kuma, but Kuma is just too powerful for him. Zoro fights Kuma bravely but is not able to defeat him. Kuma gives a proposal to Zoro that he won’t kill Luffy if Zoro can endure Luffy’s pain.
Zoro being loyal to his captain, agrees. Kuma removes Luffy’s pain and gives it to Zoro. Zoro survives by a thread. After everyone wakes up, Sanji goes to Zoro and asks him what happened. Zoro casually says nothing…happened.
3. Frogs In A Small Pond Wouldn’t Know How Vast The Ocean Is
This quote was originally said by Mihawk. Zoro used this very quote against Pica in the Dressrosa arc. With the help of Orlumbus, Zoro finally manages to reach Pica. In an enthralling fight between the two, Zoro comes out on top. Combat-wise, Zoro had the advantage, but Pica still managed to corner Zoro into tactical thinking and even bring out his weaknesses. Those with little to no experience in the world would not understand its harshness. This is what Zoro meant by saying this.
4. Have You Ever Seen A Fierce Animal You Were Sure Would Never Bite?
In the Punk Hazard arc, Zoro comes face to face with Ceaser Clown’s assistant Monet. In reality, Monet was a member of the Donquixote Pirates sent as an agent by Doflamingo. In the biscuits room, Tashigi and Zoro argue while the former says she should fight Monet. Zoro sits away to watch Tashigi fight. Tashigi is quickly attacked by Monet, and Zoro comes to her help. Zoro slashes Monet’s cheek. Zoro then cuts Monet in half. He didn’t use Haki in his attack. That’s why Monet survives. However, Tashigi finishes off Monet soon.
5. Scars On The Back Are A Swordsman’s Shame
Zoro is a very respectable character and always makes sure to fulfill his duty. Zoro faces Mihawk very early on in the series. In the 24th episode, named Hawk-Eyes Mihawk! Swordsman Zoro Falls into the Sea!, Mihawk appears to finish off Krieg. Zoro, without a thought, recklessly challenges Mihwak in a duel. Even after wielding three swords, Zoro is defeated by Mihwak. Accepting his defeat, Zoro gets ready for his execution but is spared. Mihwak says that Zoro has great determination and wants to see how far he can go.
6. When I Decided To Follow My Dream, I Had Already Discarded My Life
Another one of Zoro’s quotes comes once again in the Thriller Bark arc. When he goes up against Bartholomew Kuma, Zoro says that a person committed to making their dreams come true will do anything, even if it means giving their own life. For him, Zoro didn’t deserve to achieve his dream as he failed to protect his captain.
This exactly was the time when Zoro agreed to sacrifice himself for Luffy. What happened next, every One Piece fan will remember forever.
7. I May Only Have Three Swords, But Yours Will NEVER Be As Heavy As Mine
Even though Zoro was heavily injured against Mihawk, he still challenged Hachi (an officer of Arlog Pirates). During the fight against Hachi, Zoro became unconscious from his injuries and collapsed.
Out of the blue, Zoro got up and somehow defeated Hachi while saying he could not die until he met someone (Mihawk) again.
8. To Face One Who Is Extraordinary, I Can’t Allow Myself To Be Ordinary
This is another quote from Zoro’s fight against Hachi. Just when Hachi gets ready to finish off Zoro, Zoro remembers Mihawk and that he has to surpass him and be able to defeat him. That’s when Zoro says this to himself, and to be honest, this quote by Zoro is something which we all can apply into our lives and live by it as to achieve something extraordinary we just cannot remain ordinary.

9. I’ll Be The World’s Greatest Swordsman So That My Name Will Reach Heaven!
Zoro said this in the 2nd episode of the series, and it just shows his willpower and determination. When Zoro is captured by the marines and about to be executed, we see his flashbacks. On the day of Kuina’s death, Zoro asks hi sensei for Kuina’s sword. Upon receiving the sword, Zoro makes a promise to himself and his friend that he will become the greatest swordsman ever.
10. You Can’t Even Kill My Boredom
During the Fishman Island arc, Zoro fights against Hyouzou. Hyouzou is an infamous swordsman in Fishman Island and is also deemed as the best swordsman there. Even though being strongest on the island, Zoro defeats him without an ounce of effort.
