The Amazing Spider-Man 3- Why Was It Cancelled?
The main reason behind the cancellation of The Amazing Spider-Man was the lack of an amazing storyline and characterization decision. Andrew’s performance as Spider-Man was never a problem, but the lack of character development was. The sequel to The Amazing Spidermen failed to make an impression on the viewers.
The sequel was thrashed by the critics, and it was another reason behind Sony’s decision to pull the plug on the film. The controversial Sony Hack of 2014, which comprised a hacker group named Guardians Of Peace, leaked confidential data from the film studios of Sony Pictures, contributing to Sony’s decision to cancel the film.
Another reason was Sony made plans to reboot the franchise with Tom Holland as the lead. The board of Sony felt Andrew had become too old to be playing the role of Spider-Man. Andrew has stated he was happy to be a fanboy again. Sony expected the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man to do well at the box office, and it didn’t. Thus, it decided to pull the plug on the movie easily for Sony.
Another reason behind the ending of the franchise was Andrew being fired from it after he failed to make an appearance on time for an event planned the announce the sequel of the ongoing franchise. In 2014, Andrew had to make an appearance at a big Sony gala event that was to be held in Rio de Janeiro in celebration of the end of the World Cup. Andrew was also supposed to make a speech alongside Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony, during the event to announce the release of the third part of the movie franchise.
Unfortunately for Andrew, he arrived late at the event and backed out from making the big announcement mere hours before the announcement as Garfield wasn’t feeling well. This led to Kaz’s presentation being altered drastically, and the part announcing the release of the third installment of the film was canceled.
The executives at Sony felt upset about Andrew’s decision to be a last-minute no-show. Thus, they decided to sever ties with the actor. Kaz took personal offense towards Andrew’s lax nature. This was followed by Sony going to Marvel for a possible negotiation and introduction of Spider-Man in them. The negotiations worked, and Holland debuted in Captain America.
