Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Preorders Sell Out as Scalpers Push Resale Prices to Over £700 on eBay

Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 has already become a target for scalpers after preorders quickly sold out at several retailers. The special console was announced alongside Nintendo’s 40th-anniversary plans and is priced at around £435 in the UK, but resale listings have appeared for considerably more.

The situation highlights the demand surrounding Nintendo’s upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which is launching exclusively on Switch 2 in November. Nintendo has confirmed that the anniversary console will arrive first on October 29, 2026, giving collectors an opportunity to own the themed hardware before the game launches.

Zelda Switch 2 Resale Prices Rise Above £700

Multiple listings appeared on eBay after the console sold out, with some asking prices reaching the equivalent of more than £700. Other listings reportedly approached £730, significantly exceeding Nintendo’s original retail price.

The special edition features a Zelda-inspired design built around the Triforce, with themed Joy-Con controllers and matching console artwork. Nintendo is also releasing a Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller and carrying case separately, both scheduled for October 29.

Importantly, buyers should be cautious about listings that claim to include Ocarina of Time. Nintendo’s official Japanese announcement confirms that the anniversary Switch 2 console does not include the game.

The Ocarina of Time remake is scheduled to launch on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says the remake features completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic music and updated movement and camera controls.

With the special console already selling out at retailers, demand could remain high as October approaches. However, Nintendo has not indicated that customers need to pay inflated resale prices, and additional availability could change the current situation.
