Capcom has released a free Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo, giving players their first opportunity to try the acclaimed action RPG without purchasing the full game.
Arriving more than a year after the game’s original February 28, 2025 launch, the demo lets newcomers experience the opening hours before deciding whether to buy the title. The announcement was shared through Capcom’s official channels following the demo’s release.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo allows players to create both their Hunter and Palico companion before playing through the game’s introduction up to Chapter 1-3: To the Forest, covering the fifth main mission. Capcom has also confirmed that save data from the demo transfers to the full game, allowing players to continue their adventure if they purchase it later.
However, the demo does have a few limitations. Photo Mode has been disabled, and all online multiplayer features are unavailable, meaning players won’t be able to experience Monster Hunter’s signature cooperative gameplay during the trial.
The demo arrives alongside changes to Monster Hunter Wilds’ product lineup. Capcom has reduced the base game’s price to $39.99, while introducing a new Gold Edition priced at $79.99, which bundles the game with multiple DLC and cosmetic items.
Capcom has also confirmed that the Ascendance expansion is scheduled to launch in 2027. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, while a Nintendo Switch 2 version remains in development.
