Acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos has officially commenced production on his highly anticipated new film, Bugonia. The enigmatic filmmaker is once again collaborating with his frequent muse, Emma Stone, who is set to star alongside Jesse Plemons.
The duo, who previously shared the screen in Kinds of Kindness, are the first confirmed cast members for this mysterious project. Given Lanthimos’ penchant for reuniting with his favorite actors, there’s speculation that Willem Dafoe, another collaborator, might also join the ensemble.
Penned by Joon-Hwan Jang and Will Tracy, known for his work on Succession, the film promises to be another mind-bending exploration of the absurd.
The plot revolves around two conspiracy theorists who become convinced that a powerful CEO is actually an extraterrestrial bent on global destruction. Their subsequent actions, undoubtedly imbued with Lanthimos’ signature off-kilter style, will undoubtedly keep audiences guessing.
Following the massive success of Poor Things, which garnered 11 Oscar nominations and four wins, expectations are high for Lanthimos’ next cinematic endeavor. With a release date set for November 7, 2025, fans eagerly await further details about this enigmatic project.
