The wait is finally over. The fan-favorite show about a stranded high school soccer team is back. Yellowjackets has returned with its thrilling third season, bringing new mysteries and shocking moments. The first two episodes, “It Girl” and “Dislocation,” set the stage for another intense season.
The Season 2 finale left fans with several questions. The cabin burned down in the wilderness, and a beloved character tragically died in the present timeline. Now, the new season addresses these events carefully, revealing details without overwhelming the audience. Instead of explaining everything immediately, the show spreads the information to keep viewers engaged.
The story jumps forward in time, showing how past events still haunt the characters. The Yellowjackets cannot forget what happened to them in the wilderness, no matter how much they try.
Shauna and Mari’s Feud Escalates
The season starts with a familiar scene. A girl runs through the woods in fear, just like in the very first episode. This time, it is Mari (Alexa Barajas) who is being chased by the rest of the group. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) catches up to her, tackling her to the ground.
Shauna demands that Mari give up the object she is holding and even bites her arm to force her to surrender. However, Mari is not the one with the item. Misty (Samantha Hanratty) has it. The object is a bone tied to a rope, used in the team’s version of capture the flag, which they call “capture the bone.”
The environment is different from the last time fans saw the team. Winter is over, and it is now summer. The snow has melted, and the group has built new shelters using materials from the forest. Tai (Jasmin Savoy Brown) has helped construct these homes, and the group has started raising small animals, including ducks, for food.
However, the biggest change is the tension between Shauna and Mari. The two are locked in a fierce conflict, though the reasons for their feud remain unclear.
To explain what happened during the time jump, Van (Liv Hewson) organizes a summer solstice festival. During the event, she tells a story about the group’s recent experiences. She reveals that many believe Coach Scott (Steven Krueger) set the cabin on fire.
The group spent twelve days and nights tending to the fire before spring arrived, bringing a new sense of hope. As Van shares this, Shauna writes in her diary, venting her frustration.
She writes, “Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the wilderness and went completely f*cking nuts.” The situation among the group remains tense, and relationships continue to fracture.
Travis’s Disturbing Visions
Many of the Yellowjackets have followed Lottie (Courtney Eaton) at some point, and Travis (Kevin Alves) remains one of her most devoted believers. In Season 3, Travis continues to trust her guidance. He drinks a special tea prepared by Lottie, which contains hallucinogenic mushrooms.
As the effects take hold, he experiences heightened senses and vivid visions. Lottie encourages him to embrace his emotions, particularly his anger over losing Javi (Luciano Leroux) and his father. However, Travis struggles to let go of his grief, especially when he compares his loss to Shauna’s pain after losing her baby.
Travis panics when he hears a strange sound in the trees. He tells Lottie that the trees are screaming. She listens carefully but hears nothing.
They dismiss it at first, but later that night, during the festival, Lottie leads a ritual to honor those they have lost. The group releases paper lanterns into the sky, expressing gratitude to Jackie (Ella Purnell), Javi, and Shauna’s baby. Suddenly, the screaming noise returns. This time, everyone hears it.
The next day, Lottie and Travis go to investigate. Travis hopes to understand the source of the sound, but he has a terrifying experience instead. He starts screaming, overwhelmed by his hallucinations. Tai and Van arrive to find Travis choking Lottie. She remains calm, telling them that Travis is simply learning to hear “It.”
Travis, however, is deeply shaken. He reveals that a voice told him, “It” does not want him—it wants Akilah (Nia Sondaya). It remains unclear whether Travis is speaking the truth or if his fear is making him paranoid.
Coach Ben’s Secret Hideout
At the beginning of the season, Nat discusses Coach Ben’s disappearance with the group. Some want to search for him, but Nat believes he is dead. However, the episode quickly reveals that Coach Ben is very much alive. He moves through the forest, resetting traps and searching for resources.
While walking, his crutch strikes something hard and hollow beneath the dirt. He clears away the foliage and discovers a hidden hatch. Inside, he finds a survival kit stocked with bear spray, first aid supplies, and peanut butter protein bars.
Meanwhile, Mari and Shauna’s feud worsens. Shauna spits in Mari’s food, leading Nat to punish them both by placing them under house arrest. Furious, Mari storms away from the camp, but she never comes back.
The next morning, Coach Ben returns to check the hatch and hears soft whimpering. At first, he assumes he has trapped an animal. However, he soon realizes it is Mari. She is injured and terrified.
Coach Ben helps Mari pop her dislocated knee back into place. She insists that she does not believe he burned the cabin. When she looks up, Ben has vanished. She assumes he has left her, but he suddenly reappears. He claims he has no idea what happened to the cabin. He has been avoiding the group to protect himself. He fears ending up like Javi.
Coach Ben knows he cannot let Mari return to the others, or they will start searching for him. He blindfolds her and brings her to his secret cave. He gives her hot chocolate, and Mari begins to lower her guard. However, she soon hears him talking to himself. She starts to wonder just how much of his sanity Coach Ben has lost.
Misty’s Guilt and Callie’s Search for Answers
In the present-day timeline, Misty (Christina Ricci) struggles with guilt. Six weeks have passed since Natalie (Juliette Lewis) died, and her funeral is taking place. Misty cannot bring herself to attend. Walter (Elijah Wood) tries to encourage her, even offering to go with her. Instead, he leaves a key on her nightstand, hinting that Natalie has a storage unit.
Misty visits the storage unit and finds Natalie’s leather jacket. She puts it on and heads to a bar, drinking heavily in her friend’s honor. She starts seeing teenage Natalie in her mind. After drinking too much, she threatens a man at the bar and then collapses. Walter finds her and takes care of her. Misty finally breaks down, admitting that she blames herself for Natalie’s death.
Meanwhile, Callie (Sarah Desjardins) continues to challenge her mother, Shauna. When she overhears girls gossiping about the Yellowjackets, she decides to get revenge. She orders animal guts and dumps them on their lunch table. Shauna watches the video and surprisingly finds it funny.
Later, a package arrives at their house with a strange symbol on it. Inside is a cassette tape. Callie is curious, but Jeff interrupts before she can investigate. She convinces her parents to let Lottie stay with them, hoping to learn more about the past. However, Shauna does not trust Lottie and asks Misty to keep an eye on them.
Callie prepares rum punch, secretly adding cough syrup to Misty’s drink. As Misty falls asleep, Callie questions Lottie about their time in the wilderness. She wants to know the truth about what really happened.
A Haunting Presence
Shauna experiences a disturbing moment at a restaurant. While in the bathroom, she hears footsteps and sees a shadow outside her stall. The lights suddenly go out.
She grips her keys as a weapon, ready to defend herself. But when she exits, the room is empty. A faint ringtone plays from another stall. The song playing immediately unsettles her—“Queen of Hearts” by Juice Newton.
Later, she called the restaurant to see if someone retrieved the phone. The final scene cuts between the past and present, hinting that the phone may belong to Melissa. If that is true, Shauna may be about to face a terrifying revelation.
Conclusion
Yellowjackets Season 3 delivers intense drama, unsettling mysteries, and shocking character developments. The conflict between Shauna and Mari escalates, Travis experiences eerie visions, and Coach Ben struggles to survive alone.
Meanwhile, in the present timeline, Misty wrestles with guilt, and Callie becomes determined to uncover her mother’s secrets. The introduction of supernatural elements, along with growing paranoia among the group, adds new layers to the psychological tension.
