Kathryn Dennis won’t be returning to the famous series Southern Charm. There are many reasons as to why she decided to exit from the show. She has been a core part of the show since the beginning of the show, and she has been at the center of the drama. But as of now, her wild journey has come to an end.
Kathryn Dennis grew up in the suburbs of Charleston and had a privileged upbringing. She first joined the show when she was just 21, and everything was new to her while she was discovering her way around.
Shep Rose, a fellow crew member, has his eyes set on her, and later, he becomes many of her love interests. They looked good on screen, but ultimately, Kathryn fell off Thomas Ravenel, who was a disgraced South Carolina politician.
Their toxic relationship went on for a few seasons, leaving her struggling to set her foot in the right direction.
Why did she leave Southern Charm?
One major reason behind her exit is the ongoing custody war with Thomas. The pair share Saint and Kensie, and as of now, Thomas has the primary custody.
A few months ago, Thomas moved the kids to Aiken, South Carolina, which is a three-hour drive from Charleston, to lead a silent and happy life.
They both have been in a custody battle since 2020, and Kathryn suffered a great loss very recently. She was dropped by her legal team as she was not making the payments on time.
Kathryn’s Rough Past on Southern Charm
Kathryn, who has been the star of the show, is the mother of two kids, but her last few years are anything but kind to her.
Between the season shooting, she found herself between a custody battle with Thomas Ravenel, her ex-husband, while getting into a tense Twitter backlash with Mika Gadsden. In May 2020, she was accused of making racist messages with monkey emojis to social activists on social media.
She later apologized, which was massive for her, and the fan following went down major after this stunt. Season 7 showed that she still did not fully absorb that her actions hurt people around her, and this led Leva Bonaparte to tell and educate her on her doings.
Later, after that, fans were expecting scenes including redemption, but she was absent in the major part of season 8, and we already know the reason behind it.
Kathryn’s few Southern Charm Feuds
She had a great share of bickering with the cast members of the show, and they have not turned their light green for her. She fought Naomie Olindo, Whitney Sudler Smith, and Cameran Eubanks in past seasons.
It seems like as she grew older, she ran out of patience with everyone around her, especially against someone who didn’t agree with what she had to say.
Her outbursts made it difficult for her friends to be around her or to even listen to her. Kathryn’s objectionable behavior with the crew and show makers kept her constantly in scandals that were appalling, especially those that involved race.
She has confirmed that she has left Southern Charm for good and will not be returning. It will be interesting to see how the showmakers and cast move forward without her character.
She has been the face of the show since the beginning, and her character has been very important for the show’s storyline. However, she became too much for everyone related to the show, and it was the right time for her to look forward.
Reaction of Southern Charm’s cast members
Olivia Flowers and Shep Rose have shared their views on the whole thing. She said that leaving might be the best option for her. He added that it has been out there how many obstacles she has to go through internally and externally involving her kids.
He cannot pretend how deep of an impact it is. He also said that he is proud of her decision. Olivia said that Kathryn should prioritize her kids above anything else. She gave her credit as she helped Olivia in her reality TV transition.
She said that she keeps up with her and always will. She has been like a big sister to her, and her leaving will give her more headspace to what is more important to her.
