Jewel has addressed the ongoing speculation about her relationship with Kevin Costner. In an interview with Elle, the 49-year-old singer acknowledged the rumors but didn’t deny them. She described the 68-year-old Yellowstone actor as “a great person” and noted the overwhelming public attention surrounding their connection.
“The public fascination is intense for sure,” Jewel confessed during the interview. Speculation about their relationship began after the pair were seen together at a charity event on Richard Branson’s Necker Island. Photographs showed them appearing cozy and relaxed during the event for Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation, where Costner was seen with his arms around Jewel’s waist.
During the fundraiser, the two appeared comfortable with each other as Jewel gave a speech. They had been enjoying a week in the Caribbean before the event. Later, Jewel shared moments from the event on Instagram, thanking Costner for mentoring the children at her foundation’s event. She also praised Branson for his contributions and shared her joy about spending time on the island.
The rumors came after Costner finalized his divorce from his wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner. The divorce proceedings were contentious, and Baumgartner filed for separation on May 1. The couple had announced in a joint statement that they had reached a mutually agreed resolution regarding the divorce.
In the divorce case, Baumgartner requested an increased monthly payment, ultimately reaching an agreement for Costner to pay $63,209 a month. Costner expressed concern during the proceedings about paying more than necessary for child support. The couple shares three children: Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13.
Costner’s previous marriage to Baumgartner followed a long history of relationships. He first met Baumgartner in 1996 during rehearsals for Tin Cup and later reconnected at a restaurant in 1998. They married in 2004 at Costner’s Aspen ranch. Prior to Baumgartner, Costner was married to Cindy Silva for 16 years before their divorce in 1994. He also shares a son, Liam, with his former girlfriend Bridget Rooney.
