Wild Child is a movie starring Emma Roberts in the role of Poppy, a spoiled brat in search of herself, her meaning, and the things that surround her. Emma plays a rich girl from La La Land who is conceited, selfish and lives in a bubble of sorts.
But the moment she steps over the line with her brattiness, she has to relocate to a British boarding school, where she faces curfews, strict British discipline that gives that “Another Brick in The Wall” vibes, and also faces meaner, and more spoilt brats from the other side of the Atlantic that rival her.
In its own accretions, Wild Child is a bit of a cult classic for coming-of-age filmed, but today, instead of focusing on its cultural legacy, we’re setting the lens on where it was filmed.
Wild Child Filming Locations
Wild Child was filmed between California and the United Kingdom. Most of the movie takes place in Kent, England, particularly within the walls, campus, and exterior of Cobham Hall. So, let’s take a look at each of these filming locations where Poppy Moore has her journey of self-discovery.
Malibu, California
Is there anything that spells to Emma Robert’s Poppy Moore’s character as a spoilt California girl than the exteriors of the lavish district of Malibu? For those of you unfamiliar with Malibu, it is a beach city located in western Los Angeles County, California.
The wild and eccentric lifestyle of the residents of Malibu makes it an ideal location for filming movies or shows with young characters who are looking to break out of their shells.

Kent, England
Now, as we already mentioned, Cobham Hall plays a major part in the movie’s story and setting. Cobham Hall in itself is a real-life Boarding School, a very prestigious one indeed. And has served as a filming location for movies like Agent Cody Banks, for example.
Cobham Hall is where the bulk of the movie takes place. It is a giant place with big halls, big auditoriums, big gardens, and dining rooms where the students are sent to learn.
The movie also has its fair share of outdoor scenes, which were all filmed in and around the beautiful Kent countryside. From rolling hills to old villages, it is a great place for any filmmaker looking to capture the classic British atmosphere that Kent is so known for.
Robin Hood’s Bay Beach
The movie also features some breathtaking views from beach locations like Robin Hood’s Bay Beach, if you’re unfamiliar with that region, it is a stunning beach that overlooks the North Sea. You can find beautiful views of the area all throughout the movie, and they were all shot at this location.
Minor Scenes
Minor scenes, mostly of exteriors that give ambiance to the movie’s sense of being sent far away to find out who you are, were shot in places like Haworth in West Yorkshire, where the girls take a bus ride, Balls Park in Hertfordshire, Keighley in West Yorkshire and Bradford.
Other minor indoor scenes took place at the prestigious Elstree Studios, located in Borehamwood; if you’re not familiar with that studio, you should know that it was home to lots of amazing films, from Alfred Hitchcock, who shot England’s first sound film, Blackmail in 1929, to science fiction classics like Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and George Lucas’ Star Wars.
It is also where they shoot TV shows like The Muppet Show, Big Brother, and as a fun fact, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody’s video was shot there.
So, now you know the places where they shot this cult classic, and if you happen to find yourself traveling to Northern England, you might take a look at some of these very nice places.
