Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is an intense political action thriller that has been airing on Prime Video. Brainchild of Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, this series is a 4 season-long, exciting drama-filled adventure series that documents the journey of its titular character, who works as a CIA Analyst.
Jack Ryan first premiered on television on August 31st, 2018. The main character, Jack’s role is portrayed by John Krasinski. Each season of this political thriller takes place in a different country and has an entirely new storyline, but the overall theme of the show ends up being the same. Jack makes sure that all of these high-profile cases he gets ahold of are taken care of, and for that, he often has to go to extreme lengths and even risk his life.
Before the third season of Jack Ryan premiered, Prime Video had already started production for its fourth and final season. The third season revolves around Jack Ryan stopping an evil plot that features creating a Soviet Union-like group once again, and to do this, the conspirers decide to use a nuclear bomb in the country. Jack plans to retrieve the powerful weapon before it does massive damage to the country’s politics and its people.
Asides from John Krasinski, the other cast members of Jack Ryan include Wendel Pierce in the role of James Green, Abbie Cornish plays Dr. Cathy Mueller, Betty Gabriel in the role of Elizabeth Wright, James Cosmo plays the role of Luka Goncharov, and Peter Guinness stars in the role of Petr Kovac. Nina Hoss and Michael Kelly were seen in season 3.
Jack Ryan Season 3: Filming Locations
With each season, the cast of Jack Ryan shifts to a totally different place to create a realistic atmosphere for the series. Since Jack Ryan’s 3rd season revolved around the Soviet Union, locations like Prague in the Czech Republic and Budapest were mostly used for each of its scene settings. Filming for Season 3 of Jack Ryan began in May 2021.
Prague, Czech Republic:
Most of the third season takes place entirely in Prague, as that’s where we see Jack Ryan trying to stop the nuclear bomb mission. This time, Jack Ryan’s not just a CIA Analyst, but also a spy that will be physically intervening in the formation of another Soviet Union. The series features Prague Castle, which is the official office of the country’s president.
Asides from Jack Ryan, other TV shows and movies that have had Prague become one of their filming locations are Outlander, Mission: Impossible (1996 & 2011), The Gray Man, and Van Helsing.
Budapest, Hungary:
Budapest was featured in season 3 too, and scenes mostly took place at Margaret Island, an Island on the Danube. We don’t see much of this place in Jack Ryan, and it’s often only used seen as a backdrop for some of the shots.
Budapest is no stranger to hosting films, as it was a prime filming location for movies like Dune (Part One and Two), Midsommar, Blade Runner 2049, and The Martian.
New York, USA:
Being a CIA Analyst out on his mission, Jack Ryan is not seen in NYC throughout this season. Instead, we do see his Boss and other colleagues still working at the CIA headquarters and communicating with Jack whenever needed. This headquarters are supposedly based in a studio located in New York.
Athens, Greece:
Although it hasn’t been confirmed by the studios, locals in Athens, Greece, spotted the cast of Jack Ryan filming some of the scenes in the capital. Other projects that were filmed here include Crimes of the Future and Tehran.

At the beginning of the series, before Jack falls into the rabbit hole concerning his next mission, we see him working in Rome, Italy. This is also the place where he finds out about the Nuclear bomb threat and decides to waste no time by staying around in the scenic city. Vienna, Austria, is another filming spot for season 3.
The next season of Jack Ryan, however, won’t be filmed in the Czech Republic and instead will be taking place in Croatia. At present, all seasons of Jack Ryan can be streamed on Prime Video.
