The University of Newfoundland campus is located in the city of St. John’s, which is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. Firstly, The campus is situated on a hill overlooking the city and the Atlantic Ocean. Secondly, The university has a very large campus, with many different buildings and facilities. There are also many green spaces and gardens on the campus. And this is where the cast and crew meet to shoot many of the outdoor scenes for this show. The Bruneau Centre
The Bruneau Centre for Research and Education is a world-class research and education facility located in Gander, Newfoundland. It is owned and operated by the Memorial University of Newfoundland. The Centre is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research and education in the natural and applied sciences, engineering, health sciences, business, humanities, and social sciences.
And it is in this place where they shoot several of the scenes for Hudson & Rex as it stands in for the St. John’s Police Department. In reality, the St. John’s Police Department building is a much less attractive venue, so the producers chose this one to give the show a little more posh feeling.
What is Hudson & Rex About?
A Major Crimes detective with the fictional St. John’s Police Department, Detective Charlie Hudson wears the badge with pride. German Shepherd Rex is his sidekick and has an exceptional ear for distinct noises. Hudson was inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement as a child by his love of mystery literature. A kidnapping suspect was slain in the pursuit of Rex’s K9 human companion, Constable Grace Lindsay, and Rex was scheduled for euthanasia. In each Episode, Detective Hudson relies on Rex’s excellent sense of smell and hearing to help him forward the case. When it comes to obtaining and analyzing evidence, the detectives rely on the help of Donovan, Truong, and Mills.

In the lead role of Charlie Hudson, a detective in Newfoundland, we have John Reardon (Arctic Air, Continuum). His pet canine detective Rex is played by a German shepherd named Diesel. Mayko Nguyen (Regenesis, Rookie Blue) plays a forensic specialist named Sarah Truong. Kevin Hanchard (Orphan Black) plays Joseph Donovan, a police superintendent, and Hudson’s boss. Raven Dauda plays Sgt. Jan Renley, who trains Rex, the dog. Lastly, Justin Kelly (The Latest Buzz) plays Specialist Jesse Mills.
