Premise
The film focuses on our protagonist, Mona, and her love story after she returns home to celebrate Christmas with her family, only to run into an ex-boyfriend and a journalist visiting the small town to cover the Christmas carnival organized by Mona’s parents.
The film starts in New York with eleven days remaining for Christmas, and the entire city is lit up in Christmas lights, marking the beginning of the celebrations. Mona, a successful and prominent social media ambassador, anxiously awaits her date to arrive at the restaurant, but he runs late, thus making her wait longer.
When he finally arrives, it is just to inform Mona about him getting back with his former girlfriend. Even though Mona is successful in her career, she feels like a failure due to not having a romantic partner to take home with her to enjoy the Christmas carnival organized by her parents.
This year, the only thing Mona desires is to have a partner to take back home with her, as she believes that once you kiss a guy under the mistletoe, then they will have lasting love. After Mona fails to find a partner to take back home with her, she heads back ten days before Christmas only to run into Fletcher, an old flame of hers, once she arrives in her town, and she is happy after meeting him as he is a handsome lad.
Mona arrives at her family home following her chance encounter with Fletcher, only to find Erin, her sister, who surprises Mona after informing her about their family’s participation in Culture & Lifestyle Magazine’s spread.
Her sister further elaborates about Dez, a reporter covering the carnival organized by their family, and Mona is excited to meet him as she feels an instant attraction towards him due to his being handsome and having a sweet personality.
Well, Mona’s family doesn’t like Fletcher, as he was the guy who broke Mona’s heart when the duo were in high school pursuing their education. Even though he is sweet, elsewhere, they like Dez, even though Mona doesn’t quite like him after he disparages her job.
Well, as everything is going quite well, Mona’s parents drop the bomb on her sister and Mona as they inform the two about their decision to organize the Christmas carnival for the last time as they are too old for the stress, thus indirectly indicating that the two sisters will have to carry the tradition forward.
After a while, Mona starts to date Fletcher but starts to get attracted towards Dez as days go by until she accidentally reads a draft of Dez describing the Christmas carnival organized by her parents, a hatchet job done to commercialize Christmas.
After a confrontation between the two, Dez leaves the following morning, leaving an apology letter and an iPad for Mona that has a link to his coverage story of the Christmas carnival, thus embracing their Christmas festivities.
The film ends with Mona informing her parents about her decision to take over the planning of the Christmas carnival for next year and her reuniting with Dez after she realizes her love for him and dumps Fletcher.
