James B. Rogers’ American Pie 2 is a comedy-filled movie that revolves around college students exploring their adulthood through a series of humorous incidents. It is the sequel to American Pie which was released in 1999.
Released in the US on August 10th, 2001, American Pie 2 had the same students from the first part gearing up for their college life and summer vacation now that they were older and a little less immature. This sequel is followed by American Wedding.
The cast of American Pie 2 includes Jason Biggs in the role of Jim, Chris Klein as Oz, Thomas Ian Nicholas as Kevin, Sean William Scott as Stifler, and Eddie Kaye Thomas as Finch. Jim’s friend Michelle is portrayed by Alyson Hannigan, while Heather is portrayed by Mena Suvari.
Rated as an R movie, American Pie is a sexual comedy and often features the characters talking about intercourse, although not as much as compared to the first part.
This sequel to American Pie barely managed to impress audiences with its humor, and the movie gained mixed reviews after the screening. It remains part of the classic 2000s American Pie series that reminds us of simpler times.
American Pie 2: Filming Locations
Filming for American Pie 2 began on February 14th, 2001, and lasted until April 27th, 2001. The film supposedly describes itself as set in Michigan, but instead, all of the scenes were filmed in California.
Malibu, California:
As the crew arrives at their temporary home for the summer vacation, they are speechless to see just how huge and amazing it is.
To be able to spend time at the palace-like house while fooling around every day sounded like a dream to all of them, and they soon started renovating the house to prepare for upcoming parties.
This house is at a resort called Paradise Cove in Malibu. The website of the resort describes itself as the best beach in Malibu, filled with fresh sea air and pristine blue waters.
American Pie 2 wasn’t the only movie to film at Paradise Cove, as other films, such as Listen To Me, Monster-in-Law, and Pirates of Silicon Valley, were also filmed here.
As Jim finds out that it’s best to talk to Michelle about his fears so he can please Nadia, he tries to get into her band’s summer camp.
However, the meeting is cut short when the counselor tries to catch Jim, only for him to hit his head on the bell and pass out. This band camp was shot at Camp JCA Shalom, 34342 Mulholland Highway in Malibu.
University College of Los Angeles:
In the beginning scenes of the movie, we see a grown-up version of the High Schoolers now in college, and they are planning to go somewhere for the upcoming summer vacation.
What better place to film a college scene than the classic University College of Los Angeles? The place is filled with good architecture that makes it stand out from the rest of the colleges.
Asides from American Pie 2, films that took place at UCLA are Oppenheimer, The Godfather, Gilmore Girls, Legally Blonde, and The Graduate.
Long Beach, California:
Jim’s home throughout the series has been at 4153 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, with Michelle’s home being located just a few blocks away at 3925 Cedar Avenue. The regional Airport, the gang, goes to is the Long Beach airport at Donald Douglas Drive.
For each of the films, Jim’s home has been a prime spot for some of the most random and comical scenes, especially the ones where his father manages to always show up at the wrong times.
Girl next door Michelle soon develops feelings for Jim in the process of making him overcome his fears centering around intimacy.
Another location from Long Beach is the Long Beach Community Hospital, which comes into play when Jim somehow manages to superglue himself to his privates. The hospital is a popular filming spot and has been seen in films like Spider-Man.
Seal Beach, California:
As the group arrived in “Michigan,” the filming spot for the arrival was shot at Main Street, Seal Beach. The bridge that we see in American Pie 2 soon afterward is the Davies Bridge on East Second Street.
At present, American Pie 2 is available to watch on Prime Video and Netflix.
