Hunter x Hunter has had an excellent track record of doing the best that any anime can do, that is, entertaining the fans. The Manga has been around for a long time, as its first debut in the Weekly Shōnen Jump was back in March 1998. Since then, it has garnered much popularity and has amassed a lot of fans.

Written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, Hunter x Hunter has had a total of 390 chapters released so far during its serialization on the Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 1998 to October 2018, which are further collected into 36 volumes. One thing that frustrated the manga lovers was that Hunter x Hunter took frequent hiatus since 2006, keeping the fans waiting for the next chapter to drop.
The Manga has surely been successful as it deserves to be, and just like every other successful Manga, it was picked up for anime adaptation. There were two different attempts at adapting the Manga into anime. Nippon Animation produced the first, and Madhouse Productions produced the second.
The one produced by Nippon Animations aired between October 1999 and March 2001, with 62 episodes directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. The second one is the one going on right now which began its broadcast from October 2011 to September 2014 with a total of 148 episodes.

In the world created by Hunter x Hunter, Hunters are the most respected profession, and becoming one of them is almost everyone’s aspiration. Not only were they licensed to look for long-lost treasures and discover mythical places and monsters, but they were also tasked with protecting the world’s knowledge and way of living. They were also occasionally tasked with hunting down criminals.
Essentially becoming a Hunter will bring prestige to the person, and they will always be welcomed and respected everywhere they go. But getting the Hunter License, proof of Hunter’s identity is notoriously arduous. Even so, the number of people striving for that is not small.
The Hunter Exam is an unbelievably difficult exam with a notorious reputation for leaving the participants dead or handicapped in many cases. The Hunter Association has deliberately made it tough to remove the weak, only leaving the strong.
We follow the story of a quirky young boy called Gon Freecss as he becomes part of the world of Hunters. He discovers that his father, who had left him at a young age, was a world-renowned Hunter. This discovery helped to set his ambitions straight, to become a Hunter like his father.
So, he decided to embark on a journey to become a Hunter by participating in the deadly Hunter Exam. On the way, he meets several new friends and foes who help and troubles him on his path to becoming a Hunter. Still, Gon perseveres through everything with a smile as he slowly but surely achieves his ambitions.
Where Does The Hunter X Hunter Anime Leave Off In The Manga?
The anime last aired its 148th episode titled “Past × And × Future” before going into a hiatus. It took the adaptation from the manga chapters 338 and 339.
Since the anime is pretty faithful to the original material, you can jump into chapter 340, titled “Special Mission,” to continue with the story. Chapter 340 can be found in volume 32 of the Manga.
