Private Practice was a great TV show that ran for six seasons. It was a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy, made by Shonda Rhimes. Both shows are about doctors’ lives, but Private Practice focused more on that. Season 6 was special because it was the last one.
Every episode felt like a goodbye to the characters and a thank you to the fans. The season ended well, but some decisions in it were surprising and changed the show a lot.
One of the most memorable parts of Private Practice’s last season was when Addison finds out that Mark Sloan has died. Addison and Mark had a complicated relationship that started long before Grey’s Anatomy.
Addison was married to Derek, who was Mark’s best friend. Addison and Mark had an affair which caused problems in her marriage. Despite this, they remained close friends. During a celebration of another character’s life, Addison gets the shocking news that Mark is being taken off life support.
While both Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice had crossover episodes, not every storyline from one show affected the other. In the final season of Private Practice, a big event from Grey’s Anatomy affected the storyline.
When Mark Sloan died in a plane crash, Addison received the news from Derek. This moment was emotional for Addison because Mark was a longtime friend. The show included this scene to start Season 6 with a lot of feelings.
In Private Practice’s final season, instead of having one big storyline, each episode focuses on wrapping up individual character stories. Addison faces challenges with her son’s biological mother and a lawsuit.
But the show ensures a happy ending for her by having her marry Jake and reconnect with Naomi. Amelia also finds happiness, overcoming her struggles with addiction and falling in love with a doctor named James. While the other characters’ stories conclude, Amelia’s continues in Grey’s Anatomy.
In the final season of Private Practice, Violet faces the sudden death of her partner, Pete, and struggles to rebuild her life with their son, Lucas. Sam films a documentary about his life and reunites with Naomi, leading to unexpected consequences.
Charlotte discovers she’s pregnant with triplets, which complicates her and Cooper’s life. Despite Charlotte’s initial reluctance to be a mother, her relationship with Cooper’s son Mason shows her embracing motherhood.
After Pete’s death, Charlotte has to work more at the hospital, making her triplet pregnancy even more challenging. She ends up on bed rest, which she hates.
During this time, we see funny dance sequences that are like dreams, helping Charlotte cope with the boredom. Even though they’re a bit silly, they bring some joy to the season, showing how unique it is.
