What is the Original Story of Cinderella?
There are around 500 versions of Cinderella’s story however the most popular one of the many was adopted in the disney’s Movie. Grimm’s version of Princess’s story is very cruel. There are hundreds of French versions of Cinderella’s story.
The earliest version of the story was written by Strabo. It follows the story of Rhodopis. The story was set between 7 BCE and 23 CE. In the Greek version of the story, Rhodopis is a Greek Courtesan. One day while she was taking bath, an eagle flew off with her sandal and dropped it on the Pharaoh. The King later searched for the owner of the sandal and marries Rhodopis.
Inspired by the original story, there are around 500 adapted versions of Cinderella’s story. However, the most popular was the Grimm brothers, which was later adapted into a movie. Her Sisters Cut their Toes and Ankle
In the Disney movie, we have seen cinderella’s sister try their best to fit their feet in the sandal. However, in the original story, one of the stepsisters chopped her feet. She cut the ankle to fit the feet into the sandal. Even after going through so much pain, the sandal did not fit into her feet. Cinderella’s other sister cuts off her toes. However, the extensive amount of blood spoils their plan.
The Fairy was The Tree
In the Disney Movie, a fairy comes and turns Cinderella into a Princess. However, in the original Grimm story, it was a tree that turn into a fairy and helped Cinderella. After her mother dies, Cinderella plants a twig on her mother’s grave and waters it with her tears, in return the tree grows up into a Fairy and helped her.
Her Sisters turn completely Blind In The End
Unlike, Disney movies in the Grimm version of the story Cinderella’s stepsisters were turned completely blind. When they accompanied Cinderella to the aisle, a bird picked one eye out. The bird did not stop there but accompanied her to the back of the aisle and picked her other eye out. As it was very violent, the story was not depicted in the story. Disney stories are meant for kids and thus it does not have any violent scenes.
