Marvel released a brand new What If Season 2 trailer before the release of the first Episode. The Trailer is very holiday-themed like it’s done to the 12 days of Christmas, but there’s a whole bunch of Easter eggs here.
Like, for example, the Loki multiverse tree from the end of Loki season 2 that he winds up creating when he becomes the God form of Loki is in the trailer. Justin Hammer even comes back for a bunch of Iron Man armor wars Easter eggs for the comics.
The real big difference this year, though, is that they’re actually releasing one episode every single day. They got really wonky with the way they actually release stuff. So they’re actually just doing this one episode per day for What If Season 2.
The Echo episodes which are dropping in January are dropping all at the same time, like be in style because there are only five of them, but it’s like a rated R series TV AMA because it’s way more hardcore. Daredevil Born Again apparently also going to be just like that too.
Trailer And Plot
Before diving into What If Season 2 Episode 1, let’s quickly talk about the show. They start the new trailer with the 12 Days of Christmas, Christmas Carol, theme. This is obviously all dropping during the holidays around the Christmas holiday. The watcher basically talks to Captain Carter about his favorite Christmas story.
They’re standing in the middle of the multiverse and he spins things around in the middle of space, so Captain Carter can actually see the depiction of Loki’s multiverse tree, so to speak. So in order to do that, she’d have to be on a higher dimension. You basically have to picture Loki sitting in the middle there, holding it all together.
They’ve obviously added the Christmas decorations to Loki’s multiverse tree because of the Christmas theme of the episodes.
Then there’s a quick montage of a bunch of different episodes. We start with the Hella episode. “What if Hela found the ten rings”, is basically where Hela gets banished to earth in sort of like a replay of the events of the first Thor movie. But for Hela earlier in the timeline Hela was locked up before Thor was born.
So I think the idea is that instead of banishing her to that other dimension present that Odin did for all those thousands of years, he banishes her to earth as a penance.
It eventually winds up finding that alternate dimension town from the Shang Chi movie, and they take her in. She winds up turning good, and Wenwu works with her when he has the ten rings to stop Odin. A lot more happened in previous episodes, but now let’s discuss when Episode 1 of What If Season 2 will be released and what will happen in it.
Release Date & Where to Watch
What If Season 2 Episode 1 will be released on 22 December 2023 on Disney Plus. This Episode is titled “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”. At the time of writing, 1 episodes are scheduled for this second season of What If, and we think there will be only 9 episodes like the previous season.
The Synopsis for Episode 1: “In a universe where Nebula becomes a member of the Nova Corps, and Ronan overthrows Thanos far in advance of the events of “Infinity War,” She sets out to show her detective skills to break free from her father’s shadow.”
Episode 1 of What If Season 2 will air at 3 am PT in the US. New episodes of What If Season 2 will be released every day this Christmas season. The episode 1 release timings for the rest of the world are as follows:
