The previous chapter of Vanitas no Carte, the chapter starts with a sentimental flashback as we see glowing and happy faces, recounting all the joyous memories that the characters have shared with each other. Archivistes is seen roaming around when someone calls for her. She turns around to see an unknown yet familiar figure standing behind her. She is shocked, and the person then reveals his true form, the enigmatic man with his new name, The Comte De Saint Germaine. They both sit down and decide to share stories to pass the time.

The scene changes to Astolfo remembering his past, his apprehension and disgust when his father gave him a dagger to kill Vampires. Astolfo’s mother told him that he’s kind and that maybe he will understand it when he grows up one day. Astolfo’s kindness towards Vampires turns on him, and he wakes up gasping in a hospital room. The doctor asks for Olivier to come, and a gasping Astolfo asks him if his sister is alive. Suddenly, Gano arrives and coarsely tells him that everyone is dead because of his own foolishness.

Olivier gets mad at Gano for his blunt behavior and attacks him while someone tosses Astolfo a pair of scissors. Astolfo takes up the scissors and stabs himself, but he makes it out alive. Astolfo is plagued by nightmares and a beautiful Paladin asks someone to bring Astolfo to him. The Paladin tells Astolfo that he made it out alive, so he must become a vampire and take his revenge. The Paladin named Charles shares his story of having a defiled body and encourages Astolfo to live on.
