The upcoming youth fantasy romance drama Way Back Love has been generating significant buzz even before its official premiere.
The series tells the story of Hee Wan (played by Kim Min Ha), a girl who has lived her youth in isolation.
One day, her first love, Ram Woo (played by Gong Myung), returns to her not as the boy she once knew but as a grim reaper.

The drama, based on a novel of the same name, explores the bittersweet mix of past excitement and present-day realities over a week-long emotional journey.
A highlight video for the drama, released on April 1, gained a high viewership within an hour. In the clip, Hee Wan drops a piece of bread, and Ram Woo asks, “Did I do something wrong?” in response to her calling him by a different name.
This moment hints at the deep connection between the two, stemming from a playful exchange that transforms into something more meaningful.
The drama will toggle between their innocent past and their changed present, adding layers to the emotional depth of their relationship.
Before its release, Way Back Love was invited to the ‘On Screen’ section at the Busan International Film Festival last year, further increasing anticipation.

The show promises to deliver a heartfelt coming-of-age story, blending the excitement of first love with the nostalgia of growing up.
A press conference was held on April 1 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul, attended by key cast members Kim Min Ha, Gong Myung, Jung Gun Joo, and Oh Woo Ri.
Kim Min Ha expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work on such a meaningful project, noting the sense of responsibility she felt to portray her character authentically.

When asked about the title she would like to earn from the drama, she joked,
“Rather than the ‘icon of first love,’ I want to be known as the ‘icon of one-sided love.’”
Gong Myung, speaking about his role as the grim reaper, mentioned how he sought inspiration from senior actors who had portrayed similar characters.
He also discussed his collaboration with the director to create a distinct visual identity for Ram Woo, focusing on how to differentiate the character from typical depictions of a grim reaper.
The drama will consist of six episodes, with two episodes released each week, starting on April 3.
