Until Your Sword Breaks is the story of a young boy on a quest for revenge and a young girl who is trying to get him to forget it. Yunosuke, Matsuri, and Hinaga were orphans who were taken in by the temple. Aside from being close friends Yonosuke and Hinaga were deeply in love. Matsuri who was younger than the duo was a little tomboyish during her youth.
Hence she did not pay much attention to Romance. Unfortunately for Yunosuke, Hinaga was brutally murdered by someone. As Yunosuke was holding on to Hinaga’s dying body she uttered a name, Takarai Tendou the current Shogun of Japan. Overcome with rage he sets out to Edo Japan to get answers from the Shogun himself and possibly kill him.
That was when he runs into Matsuri again. Matsuri is working at a Soba restaurant and has fallen head over heels for Yunosuke. But no matter how many times she confesses her feelings Yunosuke never takes her seriously. He still sees her as that Tomboyish girl whom he was friends with. To spend more time with him Matsuri joins his Bodygaurding Business.
They earn a living by volunteering to escort people to and from places through dangerous areas. However, this job serves a dual purpose. Yonusuke wants to establish himself as a competent Bodyguard so that the Shogun would take notice and hire him as his personal guard. He knows it’s virtually impossible to get close to the shogun any other way.
The only other person he has told his plan to is Matsuri. She does not want him to go through with it. However, his feelings for Hinaga are too pronounced for him to stop his revenge plans. The only way to save Yunosuke in Matsuri’s mind is to take Hinagi’s place. To become the person he adores most. In order to do that she must show him her elegant side. But no matter how hard she tries she always ends up remaining Yonusuke of her childhood self.
Until Your Sword Breaks Manga Recap
In the previous chapter, we are introduced to Matsuri’s friend, roommate, and co-worker Aigaki Ren. Ren was the first friend Matsuri made in Edo. After learning she had nowhere to go Ren takes her in and gives her a job at the Soba Restaurant. In the last chapter, Matsuri brought Yunosuke to the restaurant to try their famous Soba noodles and to meet Ren.
And it turns out Ren wanted to hire them as escorts to her parent’s place. She explains how the way there is overrun by feral dogs who attack at first sight. Matsuri and Yunosuke were happy to take her commission. During their travel, a feral dog attacked causing Matsuri to run up a tree. Yunosuke was able to subdue the dog and later even finds it a new home.
It is revealed that the place Ren wanted to go was the Cemetary as her parents contracted a deadly disease while she was just a child. Thankfully Ren did not get infected and became the only living person in her family. Due to the dogs, she was unable to visit her parent’s grave for a long time. Ren will be eternally grateful to Yunosuke and Matsuri for helping her.
The next day Yunosuke came to the restaurant and Ren offered him payment for the other day. However, Yunosuke refused to take it as she was a friend of Matsuri. Throughout the Matsuri tried several times to show Yunosuke her elegant side but each time something would happen. After seeing a crowd gathering Yunosuke jokingly asks if the Shogun showed up and to his surprise he realized that was exactly what was happening.
Until Your Sword Breaks Chapter 4 Spoilers & Predictions
This is the first time Yunosuke is coming face to face with the one who allegedly murdered his beloved. Matsuri knows he will stop at nothing before getting his revenge. However, trying to make a move now is equivalent to suicide. We hope that Yunosuke would realize that too. If not Matsuri would have to come up with a way to convince Yunosuke not to throw away his life like this.
