Trixie Mattel, the beloved winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and her boyfriend of eight years, David Silver, have officially parted ways. In a heartfelt YouTube video posted on December 30, Trixie (née Brian Michael Firkus) confirmed that the couple ended their relationship some time ago.
“Some of you have speculated, and it’s true—David and I separated a while back,” Trixie revealed near the end of the 31-minute video. She shared that the news was long known by those close to her but felt it was time to address it with her fans.
Trixie assured fans there was no dramatic reason for the split, describing it as simply a relationship that ran its course. “It was a very long relationship, and so much of it made me happy,” she reflected, noting her gratitude for their creative collaborations and ventures like the Trixie Motel.
She also acknowledged the challenge of sharing such a personal chapter of her life publicly, saying, “I cared deeply about sharing our story, but life doesn’t always turn out how you hope.”
This announcement followed Trixie’s recent three-month hiatus from drag to focus on personal healing. Earlier this year, she opened up about the emotional toll of an overwhelming work schedule that left little room for her personal life. “The last year was the hardest of my life,” she said in a vulnerable video shared in July.
She admitted that her intense career demands caused her social, family, and personal life to wither. “The bigger my career got, the smaller my real life became,” Trixie explained, adding that her support systems had been severely strained.
Though Trixie and David occasionally shared glimpses of their life together on shows like Trixie Motel, they largely kept their romance private. “I wanted to protect our relationship from public scrutiny,” Trixie said in May.
The couple’s time together saw them go on significant milestones, including renovating a $2.5 million Palm Springs motel and later purchasing a Hollywood home. While working on these projects tested their patience, Trixie once credited the experiences with strengthening their bond.
Even in their separation, Trixie expressed gratitude for their time together. “I will always care about David and cherish what we built together,” she shared. As fans process the news, Trixie continues to prioritize healing and reconnecting with loved ones while preparing for the next chapter of her life.
