Fifth-generation K-pop girl group tripleS has recently come under scrutiny for their unconventional living arrangements. Unlike the typical practice of K-pop idols residing in dormitories during promotional periods, the members of tripleS have opted for a more independent lifestyle.
They revealed that they are free to live independently in their family homes or solo residences during non-promotional periods.
According to the group, this decision was made to address some realistic issues associated with dorm living. A member explained, “Though it’s so fun and enjoyable to get together and put our strength to promote, there are some realistic problems that come with it. So, during our non-promotional period, we are allowed to freely live where we want to.”
This shift has sparked mixed reactions among netizens, leading to both shock and backlash. Amid the controversy, member Kim Yooyeon issued an apology to fans. She shared her thoughts, stating, “I thought about it a lot while writing it down. I felt apologetic and upset when I thought about what we said on Signal yesterday.”
Yooyeon further reassured fans, saying, “I hope you guys consider it as a vacation of sorts for me and you don’t think too much of it.
When I move back into the dorms after one or two months, it will be shown on Signal, too. During non-promotional periods, I’ll be going with the members, whether it’ll be having lunch, dinner, or practicing. Don’t worry too much.”
Despite the explanation, the issue led to a forum discussion on June 14 where netizens discussed a boycott of tripleS. A photo of a man avoiding member Sohyun during a fan meeting was shared, alongside tweets from frustrated K-Netz who expressed their anger at the situation.
The author of the forum post noted, “TripleS usually lives in the dorm, but this time, they said that the members who aren’t promoting can live in their own house. But the fans don’t want them to leave their dorms so they’re now boycotting the members who left the dorm.”
