Funimation has announced its line-up for new anime releases in April, and this is a complete guide for everything you need to know about it. The world of anime and manga is evolving so fast these days as its popularity is at an all-time high. Funimation is an anime streaming website which features a lot of anime as well as other East-Asian content. Funimation and Crunchyroll are the two biggest streaming sites when it comes to anime.
The sites were working in collaboration till 2017, when SONY Pictures Television bought the rights for Funimation. The next year, they made an exclusive video-on-demand (VOD) deal with Hulu to get more subbed and dubbed content on their site. Funimation has a lot of dubbed content for its viewers who prefer that. Viewers can also watch shows offline if they avail of Funimation’s premium plus subscription.

1. Love After World Domination
Love After World Domination is set to release on 8 April 2022. The manga series started serializing in 2019, and Project No.9 is all set to release the anime adaptation for it this year. The series revolves around a secret relationship. Fudou Aikawa, better known as the Red Gelato, is the very capable leader of the hero squadron “Gelato 5”. Desumi Magahara is the minion leader of the villainous group named “Gecko” who is the enemy of “Gelato 5”. To everyone else, these two are mortal enemies. However, in private, they are in love. 2. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
This is a rom-com anime from the studio Doga Kobo. Shikimori’s Not just a Cutie is scheduled to release on 9 April 2022. The story revolves around Shikimori and her relationship with her boyfriend, Izumi from Izumi’s perspective. Izumi has a penchant for getting into accidents. However, Shikimori’s always there to save the day. He gets to learn more about her protective and cool side rather than just her outward cute side as they spend more time with each other.

3. BUILD-DIVIDE -#FFFFFF- CODE WHITE
“Build Divide-#FFFFFF- Code White” will be premiering on 2 April 2022. The show will be available for streaming on Funimation and Crunchyroll. It is a Japanese mixed-media project developed by the collaborative efforts of Aniplex, Yūhodō, Liden Films, Homura Kawamoto, and Hikaru Muno. It consists of a collectible card game that was released in October 2021 and an anime series by Liden Films, which also premiered in the same month. 4. Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Final Season
The final season of Magia Record will premiere on 3 April 2022. Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story is a JRPG developed by the company f4samurai for Android and iOS devices in 2017 in Japan. This series is a spin-off of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series from 2011. There are two different story arcs that were released for the video game. The first arc gives us two parallel storylines.
The main story revolves around Iroha and her dealings with the Uwasa and the Magius. The other story shows the unfolding events in Kamihama City through the eyes of the main characters of the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime. The second Arc shows the events after the resolution of the conflict with the Magius. Here, Iroha has to deal with the Kimochi, a phenomenon distinct from Uwasa or the Witches.

5. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2
Season 2 of The Rising of the Shield Hero will premiere on 6 April 2022. This season is about the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani and his friend growing up. It will show him remembering everything he learned during his childhood. According to the official trailer, the new season will be about the incidents after the fight between Glass and Naofumi’s party. Naofumi’s task will be to figure out the truth behind the monster waves that are trying to kill their world’s Cardinal Heroes. There will also be a new antagonist, much more powerful than the ones our heroes have faced before. Naofumi Iwatani, Filo, and Raphtalia will jointly try to save their world this time.
6. Kaguya-sama: Love is War Ultra Romantic
This is the third season of the series, titled “Kaguya-sama: Love is War Ultra Romantic” and it is all set to premiere on 8 April 2022. The story revolves around student council president Miyuki Shirogane and vice president Kaguya Shinomiya of Shuchiin Academy. Kaguya is the only daughter of the wealthy Shinomiya conglomerate family. Miyuki is the top student at their school and is quite well known across the prefecture. They are both interested in each other, but neither will confess it because of their pride. Both of them come up with different schemes in order to make the other confess their love faster. Hence, the title.
7. Date A Live IV
“Date A Live IV” will premiere on 8 April 2022. Unfortunately, however, there is not much information about the plot of season 4. Fans can expect to meet Nia Honjou and Mukuro Hoshimiya, the ninth and tenth Spirits. This season may also feature a struggle between Shido and Mukuro as well as the return of the malicious Kurumi Tokisaki. Kurumi wants Shido’s mysterious abilities. 8. Spy X Family
Spy x Family is all set to release on 9 April 2022 on Crunchyroll as well as Funimation. This is the first season of this anime, a totally new release by TOHO Animation Studio. The story of this anime follows a spy, Loid Forger (Twilight), who needs to “build a family” to execute a mission. While he is building this family, though, he unknowingly gets an assassin as his wife(Thorn Princess). And the daughter(Anya) they adopt can read minds. Quite a talented family, indeed.
They take on the role of playing family, calling themselves “The Forgers”. All three must act just like a normal family would in order to fool each other and the people near them in order to carry out their own agenda. Although these three are just lying for a mission, they will soon find that being a family requires more than just blood relations.
