Jujutsu Kaisen has become a sensation amongst other anime, bringing a different view on curses in the fantasy world. As the manga is entering a new phase in the Culling Game Arc, here we have the Top 5 favorite characters from the Jujutsu Kaisen culling game. So let’s begin.
The anime Jujutsu Kaisen is based on writer Gege Akutami’s manga which goes by the same name. The series revolves around a high schooler Yuji Itadori who swallows a cursed object resurrecting the extremely powerful curse Ryomen Sukuna inside his body. Now to save his life from execution, Itadori is allowed to live only with a mission of gathering all the fingers of Sukuna and then Sacrificing himself to finish the curse.
Jujutsu Kaisen brought in the Culling Game right after Gojou Satoru was captured at the end of the rules Itadori’s Extermination Arc, form the 9th arc in Gege Akutami’s manga chapters. The culling game brought in a variety of new characters. Some we have seen in Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and some we have been introduced to lately. The Culling Game makes the participants follow the rules, which, if failed, will result in their death. So what is the purpose of the Culling game?
What Is The Culling Game in Jujutsu Kaisen?
To explain in short, the culling game follows a series of deathmatches held between sorcerers and non-sorcerers, who here are considered as the participants of the game. The objective of a player once entered is to kill the opponent and gain points. The key is to survive and gain points while following the rules. There are a total of 8 rules in the game to start of the game, but after a certain point is reached, the players are entitled to add another rule to the game. Before setting the new rule in motion, it is being reviewed by the game organizer.
What are the rules of The Culling Game?
As mentioned earlier, the game started with the initial eight rules that each member had to follow. These rules have been taken from the manga chapters, and as the story continues, new rules have been added. So far, only two new rules have been added to the game. Let’s check them out.
The Culling Game Default Rules
- The player who has activated their cursed technique should announce their participation in the culling game at a barrier of their choice within the duration of 19 days.
- Any player who goes on to break any rule during the game will be stripped of their curse as a punishment.
- Any non-players who get into the colony will be entitled as the participants of the culling game the moment they enter inside.
- The only way a player can score points is by killing other participants.
- Only the game master is authorized to determine the points of the player, and these points indicate the value of a player’s life. The original rule says sorcerers are worth 5 points while the non-sorcerers are worth only 1 point.
- Apart from the player’s point value, once the player reaches a total of 100 points, he/she can negotiate with the game master to add a new rule.
- Continuing with the previous rule, the game master has to accept the new rule if and only if it has no permanent effect on the culling game.
- If a participant has is pointed at a constant level for 19 days, that player will be out of the game and be subject to cursed technique removal.
Newly Added Rules
- All individual participants are able to gain information on other players in terms of “name, points, the number of rules added, and the current colony”. (Added by Hajime Kashimo, Chapter 158)
- All Players are able to provide any amount of points to another player. Added by Hiromi Higuruma, Chapter 167)
With That Being Said, Let’s see the Top 5 favorite characters from Jujutsu Kaisen culling game:
1. Yuji Itadori
Taking the number one spot on the list is our main hero Yuji Itadori. Being the son of Jin Itadori and grandson of Wasuke Itador, Yuji had a normal life until he encountered and ate one of Sukuna’sfingers. After knowing that he could become the potential vessel to harness all of Sukuna’s fingers, Yuji decided to join Jujutsu High alongside Megumi and Nobara as first-year students.
Yuji is a fair kind of a person who cares for everyone close to him even if the people around him do not have a great connection with him. He greatly respects the value of life and makes sure that others receive a proper death.
Talking about his strengths, we all know Yuji has great reserves of curse energy as he has the king of all curses, special grade curse, Ryomen Sukuna. Though he doesn’t have a specific technique, he is still harnessing his powers and controlling cursed energy. At present, Yuji has tremendous martial arts skills and superhuman strength, which help him easily inflict damage on curses. With his vigorous training process, Yuji was able to grasp the nature of his cursed energy and turn it into a mastered weapon. He learned to manifest his curse energy to enhance his physical strength and also went on to learn the Black Flash, which he could use at his will.
2. Megumi Fushiguro
Coming up in the second place is Megumi Fushiguro, who is the deuteragonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen series and manga adaptation. He is also a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High alongside Yuji and also a descendant of the Zenin family.
In appearance, he is a tall, dark-haired boy with light green eyes and spiky dark blue hair. He is mostly seen donning the standard Jujutsu Tech uniform, which is a long-sleeved over-shirt with a high collar along with a golden button with a swirl that all Jujutsu Tech uniforms usually have, matching trousers and ankle-high boots.
Megumi is kind of a stoic and calculative kind of a person who helps people who, as per him, are good in Nature. His ideology believes that this world is just an unsafe place and that kind people need to be given a chance to live, which is the job of a sorcerer. The reason why he has bagged 2nd place in this place is his calculative thought and his amazing curse techniques.
Ten Shadows Technique is the name of his technique that originated from the Zenin family. This technique allows the user to use shadows to create shikigami. Megumi’s latent talent helps him able to process ten shadows at once. Megumi can use this technique to generate higher and advanced shikigami and also is able to bring himself up within the shadows. Megumi’s domain expansion Chimera Shadow Garden creates an entire area full of shadow fluid. In this domain, Megumi can cast a number of Shikigami and even hide in the shadows while making a clone of himself. At present, Megumi’s Domain is incomplete and can have aftermath damage on himself.
3. Yuta Okkotsu
Yuta Okkotsu was first introduced as the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen’s prequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The guy is in 3rd place on this list. Yuta was brought into Tokyo’s jujutsu high after being enrolled by Satoru Gojo. He was in his training in Africa until the Shibuya Incident, which is when he decided to come back. He is recognized as one of the four great sorcerers in the compound.
His power comes from his connection with Michizane Sugawara, but it only first manifested when he transformed Rika into a cursed spirit. This immediately brought in Yuta as a special grade curse user. Rika was so vengeful as a spirit that Suguru Geto acknowledged her as the ‘Queen of Curses.’ While even in the manga, it was admitted that Yuta had a great amount of curse energy more than Gojo Satoru’s. His energy would vanish in an instant as he cannot manage it as flawlessly as his master, who has the Six-Eyes.
4. Hana Kurusu
In the fourth place, we have Hana Kurusu, who is introduced as one of the players participating in the Culling Game. She appears as a small girl who has light-colored eyes and short hair. In the manga, it appears as though she is wearing a turtleneck sweater, dark pants, and heeled ankle boots. It looks as though this character can fly as she has a pair of wings. It was mentioned in a chapter that Hana could possibly be a thousand years old person.
In the Manga chapters, according to Master Tengen, Hana has a cursed technique that allows her to extinguish any other cursed techniques. It is also claimed that she can even open up the back of a Prison Realm. She is also capable of taking flight as she possesses wings.
5. Fumihiko Takaba
Taking the last place on the list is Fumihiko Takaba. He is a character who is introduced in the Jujutsu Kaisen series as a failing comedian who was converted into a sorcerer by Kenjaku in order to participate in the Culling Game. In Appearance, Fumihiko is a tall man and wears a typical business suit, a black and white combo with a checkered tie.

Nature-wise, yes, he is a comedian, so of course, he has a comic side to him. He appears to be quite goofy and awkward during tense situations. Even during the games, he is seen making jokes during serious life and death scenarios. His curse technique is, yes, you guessed it right, Comedian, which allows him to come up with things that are certainly funny as per him, and this thing becomes a reality.
