People who might not even watch anime seem to know all the main characters from Attack on Titan, especially Levi. He is a unique character in the sense that he defies traditional anime tropes. Levi is the squad captain of the Special Operations Squad in the Survey Corps. He is also known as humanity’s strongest soldier against Titans. Levi’s personality and the complexity behind his actions have a lot to do with his popularity. He is obsessed with cleaning, even wiping his blade in the middle of a fight, and the reason can be dated back to his childhood. Levi does not show much hesitation before killing, and he always has a straightforward attitude towards things.
A character like Levi is hard to come by, but not impossible. In this article, we are listing down characters from different anime who are just like Levi. Hopefully, this will be a good introduction to new anime to keep on your watchlist!
1. Near
Death Note is another iconic anime that most people start their anime journey with. Many fans compare Levi and L’s personalities for similarities. However, L will go to many further lengths to accomplish his goals than Levi. The detective, working to find KIRA, is not above fooling others about his own intelligence to gain information. Near, on the other hand, is eerily calm and unemotional compared to L. Near was his protégé. He always tries to maintain an otherwordly aura about himself. But even he has his own eccentricities in private, just like Levi.
2. Riza Hawkeye
Riza Hawkeye is a lieutenant officer in the Amestrian State Military in the Fullmetal Alchemist anime series. She is a decorated sniper from the Ishvalan War and holds the title of ‘The Hawk’ for her abilities. Riza is stone-cold and quite direct in her intentions which may make her seem cruel to some, just like Levi. She has a quiet way about her and a hardline approach to life. However, she only acts that way because she cares so deeply about her dear ones. Riza shares Mustang’s sentiment of wanting to rise to the top in order to protect the ones under them. Riza has deep regrets about her past actions during the Ishvalan War and doesn’t necessarily love working as a sniper for the military. She just believes her role is necessary.
3. Takehisa Hinawa
Takehisa Hinawa from Fire Force is another lieutenant that is similar to Levi Ackerman as well as Riza Hawkeye. His combat style includes firearms as well. He has a supernatural ignition ability which lets him have control over the heat and sparks of the discharged bullets he fires. Takehisa can then guide the bullets through the air the way he wants them to go. He also has a no-nonsense attitude and always puts his duty first, just like Levi. He does not have any sentimental or goofy side. He is very quick to tell off any juniors he sees slacking around. Apart from his lack of fashion sense, unintentional on his part, Lieutenant Takehisa is a duty-bound soldier.
4. Giyu Tomioka
Giyu Tomioka is the current water Hashira and a member of the Demon Slayers corps. He is the one who convinced Tanjiro to become a Demon Slayer in the first place. Giyu is also the master of the same breathing technique as Tanjiro Kamado. He is stern and has a very professional attitude. Because of this, he is kind of a loner and has trouble making friends, a trait he gets teased about quite often. Giyu was the first Hashira to appear in the series and tried to slay Nezuko until Tanjiro’s defiance made him give up. He does not have any wrath towards them and is definitely on the good side. Although some may find his personality monotone, it is something that makes him similar to Levi.
5. Touka Kirishima
Touka Kirishima, also known as the Rabbit Ghoul, is one of the main characters in Tokyo Ghoul. She has experienced a lot of misery due to her circumstances throughout her life. Touka and her brother Ayato lost their father to CCG investigators. After that, the two siblings went their separate ways in life. Touka’s style of fighting is fast and aggressive, relying more on her speed as she doesn’t have much brute force. That doesn’t stop her from destroying her opponents, though. Touka, later on, becomes an ally to the protagonist Kaneki. When Kaneki was first struggling with becoming a ghoul, she had no qualms about shoving a bloody piece of meat in his face just to make him eat. Her unforgiving personality and stern outlook of life are certainly similar to Levi’s.

6. Kento Nanami
Jujutsu Kaisen is another recent anime that has become popular globally. Kento Nanami is a side character in the series but has become quite popular with fans because of his pessimistic personality. He is an experienced jujutsu sorcerer who is tasked with looking after Yuji Itadori and showing him the ropes of the job. Nanami has no time for foolish optimism or distractions from his job. He once left being a jujutsu sorcerer to be a salaryman but found that job equally draining, if not more. His no-nonsense and pragmatic attitude towards life is very much like Levi’s. Nanami feels like the only responsible adult in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. If any powerful enemies show up, he will always insist on taking over the fight from Yuji as he is the adult who should be protecting the kids.
7. Uryu Ishida
Uryu Ishida from Bleach is an archer from the Quincy tribe who is always sure to hit his target. He is stern and sometimes even quite high-strung because he carries the weight of the honor of his whole tribe. He is the only surviving member of the Quincys. Uryu also has a similar role to Levi in terms of his relationship with Ichigo Kurosaki, the protagonist. He prefers fighting by the book and would much rather plan out the entire offensive before carrying it out. Apart from having more comedic relief and filler moments, Uryu Ishida shares the most similarities with Levi Ackerman in this list.
8. Jin
Jin is one of the main characters in the beloved Samurai Champloo series. He is drawn out to be the calm, collected, and cool one amongst the trio. Jin is very level-headed and always fights by the book. His fighting style has even got him in trouble because it wasn’t flexible enough in real combat. Although being a Ronin, Jin embodies everything that is required to be a samurai, having his own strong sense of justice in comparison to his travel mates. Even though he has a troubled past, he always masks it with an air of dignity. Both Jin and Levi are very skilled with their swords and are very aware of them as well. They are not arrogant, but they definitely share their confidence level, and as they should with their fighting skills.
9. Thorfin
Thorfinn Is Fast, Deadly & Always Means Business (Vinland Saga)
Thorfinn is the main protagonist of the anime, Vinland Saga, a former warrior of Askeladd’s band and the son of Thors. He follows Askeladd’s orders, unlike Levi, who is a captain in the military. That’s about the only difference between the two, as the rest of their characteristics are almost similar. Even both of their backstories are tragic. We all know Levi’s mother died when he was young. Similarly, Thorfin also saw his father die before his eyes when he was young. He is self-absorbed and unsentimental, just like Levi. During combat, he does not use brute force as much as speed and precision. It’s because of this that he could battle Thorkell and make it out alive, a rather impressive feat.
10. Ginko
Ginko is the wandering protagonist of the Mushishi anime series. His real name is Yoki. He is a very mysterious man who is known to travel around many villages, constantly on the road. Ginko is on this path to help people with his knowledge in Mushi and to solve related cases.
He strongly believes that Mushi is not inherently evil. They are just trying to survive. Like Levi, Ginko is very dedicated to his cause and doesn’t really question it much. Both Ginko and Levi are good at what they do and do it because they believe that is their path.
