Former NXT Superstar Tommaso Ciampa is officially part of WWE’s Main Roster now. Ciampa appeared in a backstage interview on this week’s Monday Night Raw. Interviewer Kevin Patrick welcomed him, calling him the newest member of Raw. Before Ciampa could say a single word about his main roster joining, WWE Superstar Ezekiel (formerly known as Elias), who made his debut last week, interrupted him.
Ezekiel went on to welcome and introduce himself to Ciampa as Elias’s younger brother. Until Kevin Owens walked in to tell Ciampa it’s a lie, they both are the same guy. It seems like Ciampa may end up in the same storyline. So far, it sees Owens still believing that Ezekiel and Elias are both the same guy. Elias just shaved his beard, changed his attire, and just doesn’t come out with his guitar.
Anyway, we didn’t see Tommaso Ciampa battling in a match on Raw this week. We can expect it to happen next week. But it won’t be the first time he is competing on the main roster.
Back in February of 2019, Ciampa, along with Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black, and Ricochet, competed on Monday Night Raw as a part of NXT. Ciampa even went on defeat former rivals Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival in a tag team match with Gargano. Following the same on Smackdown, they went on to defeat The Bar.
The last time we saw Tomasso Ciampa was on NXT: Stand & Deliver, where he lost to Tony D’Angelo. Moments after the match, the crowd chanted “Thank You, Ciampa,” as he left the ring to go backstage. Until Triple H’s music hit and out came the Game to embrace the moment with one of his last Black & Gold NXT Stars.
Since NXT changed its direction, many of the show’s original Black & Gold stars have been released or left. Fans believed even Ciampa might leave for other wrestling-oriented promotions such as AEW, ROH, or Impact Wrestling. But now it seems like he is staying. It would be great to see how his main roster run pans out. Right now, WWE is at its peak after the return of Cody Rhodes, and Ciampa may benefit from having matches with superstars like him.
