Dora Moono Nyambe, a compassionate educator and TikTok influencer known for transforming lives in Zambia, has died at the age of 32. Nyambe, who built a school in the village of Mapapa and had over 4 million TikTok followers, was celebrated for her humanitarian efforts through her nonprofit organization, Footprints of Hope.
A message posted on her TikTok and Instagram accounts on Dec. 27 confirmed her passing. The announcement described Nyambe as “a loved mother, heroine, peace philanthropist, and an extraordinary woman,” and shared details about her burial scheduled for the next day. According to her best friend, Nyambe passed away on Dec. 25, though the cause of death remains undisclosed.
Earlier this month, Nyambe had shared on TikTok about suffering a leg injury, though it is unclear if it is related to her death. PEOPLE magazine was unable to obtain further details from her representatives.
Nyambe’s TikTok journey began in March 2020, when she shared her inspiring story of adopting children and building a school in Mapapa. In her final video, she reflected on her determination, stating, “When I started to adopt, people said I couldn’t do it because of my age and being unmarried.” The video depicted her tireless work supporting hundreds of children.
Originally from Lusaka, Zambia’s capital, Nyambe’s life took a profound turn in 2019 when she visited Mapapa. Seeing the severe poverty, malnutrition, and lack of education in the village, she was inspired to act. The conditions, including the prevalence of early marriages, compelled her to stay and work towards building a school.
With the help of TikTok, Nyambe amplified her efforts, using the platform to raise funds and awareness. Her nonprofit, Footprints of Hope, founded in 2019, became a beacon of hope for the community, offering education, meals, and safe shelter to children.
According to Northeastern University, the school Nyambe established had grown to serve 350 students as of last year, employing 15 teachers and providing comprehensive facilities such as dormitories, a library, and a dining hall. Nyambe’s work also included fostering 200 children and supporting 500 more with food and education.
Her TikTok videos often highlighted the challenges faced by her students, raising awareness about child marriages and abuse while showcasing the children’s talents and aspirations. “Yes, there are kids that are suffering. But that’s not all they are,” Nyambe once said. “They are also amazing human beings who create art, love sports, and enjoy reading.”
In her last Instagram post, Nyambe collaborated with Mr. Beast’s Beast Philanthropy account to rebuild dormitories damaged by a storm. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and selflessness lives on in the lives she touched.
Nyambe’s incredible journey continues to inspire millions, as she leaves behind a profound impact on her community and the world.
