The Witcher 3 Remastered Will Require Around 50GB of Storage on Switch 2, Compared to 45GB on Other Platforms

CD Projekt Red has confirmed the storage requirement for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2, giving players another detail to consider ahead of its September 29 release. The remastered version will require 50GB of storage on Switch 2, making it one of the larger RPG installations on Nintendo’s new console.

The Switch 2 version is being released as a separate listing on the Nintendo eShop rather than simply as an update to the original Switch version. However, players who already own The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no additional cost.

Switch 2 Version Needs 50GB of Storage

According to CD Projekt Red Global Community and Social Media Director Marcin Momot, the Switch 2 edition requires 50GB of storage space. The requirement is slightly higher than the remastered update planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, which will require approximately 45GB.

The difference comes from the Switch 2 release being treated as a new version of the game rather than a traditional update. Players planning to install the game digitally should therefore make sure they have at least 50GB of available storage before downloading it.

The storage requirement could also vary on PC depending on the language packs installed.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will include the complete base game alongside its two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The upgraded release also introduces several visual and gameplay improvements, giving returning players another reason to revisit Geralt’s adventure.

CD Projekt Red has previously confirmed improvements to movement, the skill tree and the game’s visual presentation. Save data and achievements from previous versions will also carry over, while cross-progression allows players to move their progress between supported platforms through GOG’s cloud technology.

For Switch players, the free upgrade makes the new version particularly notable. Owners of the original Nintendo Switch release will not have to purchase the game again to access the Switch 2 version.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Arrives September 29

The remastered edition is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026, bringing Geralt’s acclaimed open-world adventure to Nintendo’s newer hardware with additional technical improvements.

The Switch 2 version will also be followed by The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The expansion is planned for 2027 and will introduce Geralt to the new region of Letten.

With the Switch 2 version requiring 50GB, players with limited internal storage may want to prepare additional space before launch. For existing Switch owners, however, the free upgrade means the larger installation comes without another game purchase.
