The Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered was developed with one major goal in mind: avoiding the compromises required by the original Nintendo Switch release. Yigsoft, which is working with CD Projekt Red on the remaster, discussed the approach during a Gamescom presentation.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Switch 2 Port Was Built From the PC Version

The original The Witcher 3 pushed the first Switch hardware considerably, requiring visual and technical compromises to make the massive open-world RPG playable. For the Switch 2 remaster, Yigsoft instead began with the PC version as its foundation, taking advantage of the newer console’s substantially stronger hardware.

Yigsoft’s technical architect explained during the Gamescom presentation that the team specifically wanted to avoid repeating the compromises made for Switch 1.

He said,

“Let’s not have those tradeoffs. Let’s start from the beginning – from the PC version – and implement that on the Switch 2.”

He added that the improved hardware meant the developers

“didn’t have to do a lot of tradeoffs with Switch 2.”

The approach should make the Switch 2 edition a considerably closer match to the remastered experience available on more powerful platforms. It also highlights how the console’s hardware has allowed developers to approach demanding third-party games differently.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29, 2026. The remastered version will bring CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed open-world RPG to Nintendo’s newer hardware with the team aiming for significantly fewer compromises than the original Switch edition.
