We have arrived at the warm and beautiful shores of Thailand as The White Lotus returns for its third season. This widely popular HBO series once again introduces a group of wealthy guests at a luxurious resort. The premiere episode follows a pattern similar to the previous seasons, opening with an unsettling discovery before taking viewers back to the start of the guests’ stay.
The episode begins during the final moments of the vacation. A meditation session between a staff member, Amrita (Shalini Peiris), and her client (Nicholas Duvernay) is interrupted by the sound of gunshots. Amrita immediately runs away in fear, while her client jumps into a nearby lake, frantically praying for his mother’s safety in front of a statue of Buddha.
As he moves through the water, he suddenly comes across a floating body, repeating the eerie pattern of water-related deaths seen in past seasons. This shocking moment marks the beginning of another suspenseful story as the episode shifts back to the start of the week.

A Familiar Face Returns to The White Lotus
Among the many guests arriving at the resort, one familiar face stands out—Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), the spa manager from Season 1. She had once formed a close connection with Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) but was deeply hurt when Tanya failed to support her business dreams. Now, Belinda is in Thailand for a three-month wellness training program, eager to learn new healing techniques and apply them to her spa back in Hawaii.
Belinda is noticeably more at ease than she was in Season 1. She eagerly explores the resort’s peaceful environment, learning about Buddhist traditions and appreciating the beauty of her surroundings.
During dinner, she notices other Black guests at the resort and warmly acknowledges them, even mentioning it to her son over the phone. She is staying in a luxurious villa with two beds, waiting for her son, Zion, to arrive soon. He is likely the same client who appeared in the opening scene, praying by the lake.
The show also introduces members of the resort staff, including Mook (Lalisa Manoban), a friendly and cheerful “health mentor,” and Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), a security guard. Gaitok drives Mook to work and secretly harbors feelings for her.
He becomes jealous when she interacts with the resort owner’s bodyguards, though she does not acknowledge his romantic interest. Instead, she remains warm and approachable, assisting guests who often comment on her beauty.
A Group of Unlikely Guests Arrives
The guests traveling to the resort include a mix of different personalities and relationships. One of the couples, Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), immediately stand out. Rick is much older than Chelsea and displays a bitter and unpleasant attitude.
He smokes despite others’ discomfort and rarely treats Chelsea with kindness. Chelsea, on the other hand, radiates optimism and constantly tries to uplift Rick’s mood. She suggests activities like spa visits and drinks to help him relax, but he dismisses her efforts.
Rick had chosen Thailand as their vacation destination, but he seemed deeply affected by the presence of Sritala Hollinger (Patravadi Mejudhon), the resort owner, and her husband. His reactions suggest a strong personal connection to them, though the details remain unknown.
Later in the evening, Chelsea finds herself alone at the bar, enjoying a martini when she meets Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon), a local model facing similar relationship troubles. Chloe casually mentions that her wealthy, older boyfriend is at the resort, then casually points him out.
To Chelsea’s surprise, the man in question is Greg (Jon Gries), Tanya’s former husband. Greg played a key role in Season 2, where he was suspected of orchestrating Tanya’s death. His return raises new questions about past events and what role he will play in this season’s unfolding drama.
Friendships That May Not Be What They Seem
Another group of guests consists of three long-time friends, Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Kate (Leslie Bibb), and Laurie (Carrie Coon). They arrive at the resort with an energetic and affectionate dynamic, constantly complimenting each other and celebrating their bond. However, beneath their cheerful conversations, subtle tensions begin to emerge.
Jaclyn, an actress, receives special attention from Sritala upon arrival, which pleases her. The three friends settle into their luxurious accommodations, marveling at the monkeys in the trees. Later, they toast their friendship over champagne, exchanging exaggerated compliments.
Jaclyn and Kate engage in a playful yet competitive exchange about who looks better, even discussing their cosmetic procedures in a lighthearted manner. However, when the conversation turns to Laurie, their praise feels like an afterthought, revealing an unspoken hierarchy within their group.
During dinner, Laurie drinks a bit too much and decides to leave early. As she watches Jaclyn and Kate from a distance, her expression shifts from amusement to sorrow, hinting at the deeper emotions she has been suppressing.
A Family with Hidden Secrets
The final group of guests is a family of five led by businessman Timothy (Jason Isaacs) and his wife Victoria (Parker Posey). Their children—Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), and Lochlan (Sam Nivola)—accompany them on the trip.
Piper, the academically driven daughter, suggested the destination as part of her research on Buddhism. However, the family does not fully embrace the spiritual experience. Timothy, unwilling to disconnect from work, refuses to surrender his phone and continues taking business calls, much to Piper’s frustration.
Victoria spends much of her time napping and offering words of comfort in her soothing Southern accent. Meanwhile, Timothy grows increasingly agitated about a business-related issue. A Wall Street journalist is investigating his connection to a fund called “Show Cal” and its ties to the Brunei government.
Although Timothy insists he knows nothing about it, the matter clearly disturbs him. His stress leads him to lash out at Rick, who is smoking nearby, and later complain about him to Victoria. She reassures Timothy, claiming that Rick is simply jealous of their seemingly perfect family.
Lochlan, the youngest son, struggles to balance his relationships with his siblings. He accompanies Piper to a temple, where she hesitates to enter and arrange a meeting with a monk. Later, he spends time with Saxon, who confidently flirts with women by the pool and shares his shallow philosophy on dating.
Saxon is outspoken and self-assured, offering his younger brother unsolicited advice on relationships and even personal habits. One particularly awkward moment occurs when Saxon asks Lochlan about his preferences in adult content. Without any hesitation, Saxon casually walks to the bathroom, completely naked, leaving Lochlan staring after him for far too long.
