The Story A Waitress and her Customer Chapter 31: Recap
Shiraishi suddenly hugs Komatsu, which startles Komatsu and even the people passing by. While hugging Komatsu, Shiraishi says that he can be rather unfair because he gets scared and runs away every time to avoid facing her feelings, and he’s also selfish. Komatsu tries to stop Shiraishi, but he continues and says that he’s the worst and he hates himself for being so unfair and cowardly.
Shiraishi then holds Komatsu’s hand and tells her that despite all these things, there is still someone who fell in love with a person like him. Someone who is more wonderful, cheerful, and Kinder than anyone has ever met; even her smile can make all her worries go away. Shiraishi places his head on Komatsu’s shoulder and says that all this time, she has saved him more times than he can count. Ever since she gave him that letter, his dull and tedious life of boredom began to shine brighter than the stars, and it was Komatsu who made all of this happen.
Shiraishi thanks Komatsu for everything she has done, which makes her tear up as she blushes while denying all the compliments. Shiraishi thinks that he has to tell her more about how important she is and how she should be confident about herself, but above all, he has to tell her that she’s the only one for him. Shiraishi holds Komatsu’s face gently and tells her that he loves her, finally confessing his true feelings.
Komatsu takes a step back and starts shaking. She asks Shiraishi if he really told her that he likes her, and despite him saying yes, she still can’t believe that this is true as her cheeks don’t her when she pulls them(because it’s cold). Shiraishi tries to calm her down, but she starts crying because she fears that this is all a dream. Shiraishi tightly hugs Komatsu and tells her that this is not a dream, but she still keeps crying, so he pats her head to calm her down.
Komatsu tells Shiraishi that he’s so cool and kind and that he’s like a prince who always makes her happy, and Shiraishi just quietly listens to all her thoughts. Komatsu suddenly pulls herself away and finally tells Shiraishi that she also loves him while asking him to go out with her. Shiraishi gets so happy seeing that even though Komatsu is crying and shaking, she still has the courage to look him in the eyes and express her true feelings.
Shiraishi hugs her again and accepts her proposal. He agrees to go on a date with Komatsu, and she continues to cry even more until her face becomes wet with tears. Shiraishi wipes off her tears and smiles, knowing that these feelings of his will never change because he truly loves Komatsu.
