Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are teaming up for a thrilling heist film on AppleTV+ called The Instigators. Directed by Doug Liman, this action-packed crime story features the two actors as thieves inspired by Robin Hood. They are on the run from police, crime bosses, and a lot of chaos.
Damon plays a desperate father, while Affleck is an ex-con. Their plan to rob a corrupt politician quickly spirals out of control. The film mixes action, excitement, and a bit of humor, offering a fresh take on the heist genre.

Who Is In Movie?
Damon stars as Rory, one of the two hapless criminals involved in the failed heist. Rory is dealing with severe depression because he cannot see or support his estranged teenage son. He starts seeing Dr. Donna Rivera, a therapist, but doesn’t find much relief. Low on money, Rory agrees to join the heist despite his lack of experience.
Damon’s career took off with Good Will Hunting, which won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay with Ben Affleck. Damon has since appeared in major films like Saving Private Ryan, Ocean’s Eleven, and Oppenheimer. He is currently working with Ben Affleck on a new crime-thriller, RIP, directed by Joe Carnahan.
Damon also co-produces The Instigators with Affleck through their production company, Artists Equity. This is their second film, following Air in 2023.
Affleck plays Cobby, an ex-con with more confidence than Rory. Cobby often mocks Rory but struggles with his own problems, including alcoholism. He pretends to pass sobriety tests throughout the movie.
Affleck gained fame for his role as Lee Chandler in Manchester by the Sea, earning a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award. He will also star in the sci-fi thriller Slingshot, set to release on August 30, 2024.
Hong Chau plays Dr. Donna Rivera, Rory’s reluctant therapist who gets caught up in the heist. Chau gained recognition with her roles in Driveaways and American Woman, and her Academy Award-nominated role in The Whale. She also stars in Netflix’s The Night Agent as Diane Farr.
Paul Walter Hauser is Booch, an accomplice of Mr. Begesai. Before acting, Hauser briefly wrestled professionally. He has appeared in I, Tonya, BlacKkKlansman, and Cruella, and won a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for Black Bird. Hauser will also voice Embarrassment in Disney’s Inside Out 2 and star in the upcoming The Fantastic Four.
Michael Stuhlbarg plays Mr. Besegai, a crime boss who recruits Rory and Cobby. Stuhlbarg became known for his role in A Serious Man and has portrayed various real-life figures. His recent work includes The Staircase, a series based on a true crime story.
Ving Rhames stars as Frank Toomey, a Boston Police Detective tracking Rory and Cobby. Rhames started in Broadway and became known for his role in Pulp Fiction. He later appeared in Mission: Impossible and won a Golden Globe for Don King: Only in America.
Alfred Molina plays Richie Dechico, an associate of Mr. Begasai. Molina is known for his role as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He has also acted in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Da Vinci Code. Molina recently starred in Three Pines, which was canceled after one season.
Toby Jones is Alan Flynn. Jones is known for his portrayal of Truman Capote in Infamous and has appeared in Frost/Nixon, The Painted Veil, and My Week with Marilyn. He also voiced Dobby in the Harry Potter series and Owl in Christopher Robin. His latest work includes AppleTV+’s Tetris.
Jack Harlow plays Scalvo, a young criminal joining the heist. The rapper from Louisville, Kentucky, has been in the music industry since high school and recently ventured into acting with White Men Can’t Jump.
Ron Perlman stars as Mayor Miccelli, the target of the heist’s central scheme. Known for his roles in Beauty and the Beast and the Fallout video games, Perlman will also appear in Stranglehold, a new heist comedy.
