Canada’s favorite baking series, The Great Canadian Baking Show, will feature a cute little challenge for the 8 talented amateur chefs in the upcoming episode. CBC has been airing this reality baking series since November 2017.
Each season of the baking show follows 10 different amateur chefs from all over Canada. Once the competition begins, they’ll have to complete various baking challenges every week until only one contestant remains.
Inspired by its British counterpart, GCBS divides each episode into three rounds: the Signature round, the Technical Challenge, and the Showstopper round. While the best performer is crowned with the title of Star Baker, the poorest performer will be sadly sent back home.
Over the years, the judges of the Great Canadian Baking Show have changed many times, with the current judges for season 7 being Bruno Feldeisen, Kyla Kennaley, Alan Shane Lewis, and Ann Pornel.
The Great Canadian Baking Show Season 7 Episode 2: Recap
Episode 2 was the much-awaited Bread Week, where contestants had to make the best bread they could ever knead. The Signature round had the 9 chefs competing in a cornbread cook-off, while the Technical round involved making a royal dish. The final Showstopper round had the simplest yet the most challenging dish, making the perfect buns.
As the episode begins, the 9 chefs arrive in the kitchen and are introduced to Bread Week. Besides making a Cornbread loaf, the contestants had to style it their way and serve it with a homemade sauce to match the taste of the cornbread perfectly.
Once the cornbread challenge ends, Kyla and Bruno taste Candice’s Chicken Dinner Cornbread, which seems to have a prismatic effect due to its jalapeno glazing. Up next was Rainier’s Mediterranean Cornbread, which was delicious but needed to be cooked a tad bit more.
For the Technical challenge, the GCBS contestants had to make a Rosca de Reyes, a special Mexican cake. Not many of the chefs were familiar with this Mexican dish, so they had a tough time trying to come up with a presentable dish.
The judges were not only looking for an orange flavor but also something well-decorated and golden brown. Andrew’s cake is uncooked, so he is put in the last place. Festival of Buns is the final challenge for the 9 chefs.
This involved making an exciting Bun tower with a total of 24 buns and two different kinds of fillings inside them. The GCBS chefs come up with creative bun towers, but in the end, it all comes down to taste.
After all of the three rounds of Bread Week, the Star Baker was announced to be Camila Garcia Hernandez. Sydney Hayden was the contestant to be eliminated last week.
