The First Descendant Season 4 Episode 1 update is now available, bringing one of the game’s biggest content drops yet. Titled The Great Clash, the update advances the main storyline toward its long-awaited showdown with Karel while adding the new Mega Dungeon, Karel’s Mothership, playable Descendant Raven, a new Transcendent Weapon tier, Trials, Boost Path progression, character rebalances, and several limited-time events.

Nexon announced the update on August 20, with Season 4 placing the ongoing conflict between the Descendants and Karel at the center of its new narrative. The update is designed to bring several major storylines toward a climax while also expanding The First Descendant’s progression systems and endgame activities.

The arrival of Season 4 follows months of preparation for the final confrontation with Karel, with the development team previously confirming that The Great Clash would focus on the massive battle between Karel and humanity.

The Great Clash Brings Karel’s Story to Its Final Battle

The Season 4 Episode 1 story sees Karel, the long-standing leader of Qliphoth’s Legion of Darkness, launch a direct invasion that leaves Albion engulfed in flames. The Descendants must confront their archenemy as the story begins revealing long-hidden secrets surrounding his character and motivations.

Karel is not being presented simply as a final villain to defeat. The new story aims to explore his own justifications and history while bringing several ongoing narrative threads closer to a conclusion.

The centerpiece of the update is Karel’s Mothership, a new Mega Dungeon that is significantly larger than existing Infiltration Operations. Players will face Karel three times in different locations, with the boss changing his attack patterns as the battle progresses.

The dungeon also includes new interactive mechanics that can help players gain an advantage during combat. A limited-time Conquest difficulty will open on September 3 and remain available until October 15, offering exclusive rewards such as the Hero of the Dawn Name Card and UI Theme, along with a special skin for the Transcendent Weapon Malicious Dominator.

Raven, Transcendent Weapons, and Trials Expand Season 4

Season 4 Episode 1 also introduces Raven, a new Non-Attribute Fusion Descendant who specializes in firearm-based combat. The former leader of an Albion back-alley guild fights with a shotgun, stylish mobility skills, and a unique shield-focused combat system.

Unlike many Descendants, Raven does not consume MP. She also has a raven companion, a dedicated roll animation, and story connections with Viessa, Kyle, and Sharen. Players can obtain Raven through high-level and lower-level content, while completing the new story rewards Raven Amorphous Material and Rare Basic Materials.

The update further introduces the Transcendent Weapon system, giving players access to a new weapon tier designed around different combat roles, including firearm damage and attribute-based skill builds. Weapon quality improves through continued farming, with higher-quality drops eventually becoming guaranteed.

Another major addition is Trials, a repeatable roguelite mode built around seven zones. Players choose Variable Codes between zones, creating builds through a deck-building system where effects can stack and interact with each other. Some of these effects can dramatically change skill performance, allowing players to create powerful combinations during a run.

The update also adds Rotational Builds, allowing players to temporarily use fully completed Descendant builds prepared by the development team. This gives newer and returning players a way to experience high-level builds and farm valuable rewards without first meeting every normal progression requirement.

Boost Path and Character Rebalances Help More Players

For players still progressing through the game, the new Boost Path provides a major shortcut. Completing it grants a fully equipped Electric Condense Ultimate Bunny build, with all required gear and growth materials provided apart from Ancestors Modules.

All Descendants at Mastery Rank 20 or below are automatically enrolled in Boost Path throughout Episode 1. Meanwhile, Kyle and Keelan have both received rebalances intended to improve their effectiveness and consistency in high-level content.

Season 4 Episode 1 also launches six special events, including Frontline Medical Support, The Great Clash Deployment Mission, New Content Challenge Mission, Back to Albion, Accelerate Research Week, and the recurring Descendant’s Weekend bonuses.

With a new story finale, a massive dungeon, expanded weapon progression, and new ways for beginners to enter high-level content, The First Descendant Season 4 Episode 1 marks one of the game’s most substantial updates to date.
