Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Says Over 300,000 New Players Try Minecraft Every Day After 17 Years

Minecraft continues to find new players nearly two decades after its original release. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed that more than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day, highlighting the extraordinary longevity of Mojang’s sandbox game.

Sharma shared the figure on X while discussing the latest Minecraft Live presentation. Her comments come after Minecraft surpassed 425 million copies sold, making its continued ability to attract newcomers particularly notable.

Minecraft Still Brings in New Players Every Day

“More than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day,”

Sharma wrote on X.

She also highlighted how the game continues to offer new experiences for its established audience.

“After 17+ years and 425M+ copies sold, I love that Minecraft is still finding new players and giving longtime ones new things to discover,”

Sharma said.

The milestone arrives as Microsoft and Mojang continue expanding Minecraft across platforms. The game is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026, giving the massive player base another way to experience the sandbox title.

The Switch 2 release will be available as an upgrade for existing Switch players, although the enhanced version is not being offered as a completely free upgrade.

The latest figures demonstrate that Minecraft remains capable of reaching audiences well beyond its original player base. New updates, additional content and releases across different platforms continue giving newcomers reasons to enter its block-based world.

The game’s enormous existing audience also means that even a fraction of new players represents a substantial addition to its community. With more than 300,000 first-time players arriving on an average day, Minecraft is continuing to expand long after most games would have entered their twilight years.
