Cid Kagenou, Lord Shadow, Stylish Ruffian Slayer, and many more are just not slowing down in popularity. The character who thought of all the world around him as some plane to fulfill his desire has managed to win the hearts of many. And the momentum has only gotten better with the second season of Emminence in Shadow movie, which has been announced.
Every Isekai is more or less the same these days, with everyone being a variation of one subgenre or another. Earlier this year, we got farming in another world type of Isekai where the character would be reborn to become a farmer. And they would have the usual blessings from the gods to rough up anyone who got in their way.
The good, the great isekai tend to be those that have character and have an important motive other than escapism. The trend is that the real world is boring, or they can’t lead a fulfilling life, and a new life gives them a better chance. But there are also many of them where neither of them mattered, and it was just a setup to start the story.
However, the stories that stick out the most are those where we get to see characters have regrets in the real world. Once they get into the new one, they will use all their knowledge to get ahead in their new life. The most important thing is delivering on that regret, which many Isekais fail to do.
The Emminence in Shadow was different as it spent a good chunk of the first episode telling what Kageno was like. And how his actions in real life made him feel unfulfilled and sometimes despondent. He just wanted to be the Eminence in Shadow, but in reality, he wouldn’t have it until he got hit by a truck.
The Eminence in Shadow movie will feature Cid going to a place he was all too familiar with in the past. Earth, the place where he was born, got his dream to be an Emminence in shadow and follow those ideals. And as usual, there is something big going on behind the scenes, with Cid being none the wiser.
What To Expect From The Movie?
The plot will follow four years after the death of Cid in his old world, which is infested with magic. However, due to the poor understanding of magic on earth, their magic isn’t as advanced as the one from Isekai. But that won’t hinder Cid since he is far more advanced than everyone in the field.
But what would the readers be in for? It is clear by now that Cid’s worldview is always at odds with reality. And we, the viewers, need some sort of narrator to tell the events cohesively. Cid will be the outsider in the movie, just as he is in the anime.
And as we said above, at his old home, Cid will be making some familiar faces, one of them being Noshino. The very girl who played an important role in helping us understand the worldview of the protagonist. The one who got kidnapped in the first episode, and we got to meet the Eminence in the Shadow in all his glory.
There will also be some new faces that will be making their first appearance in the old world. And we will learn of the events that took place in the four years after Cid died( got Isekaid). The one thing that will be central to all of the events will be none other than Nishino.
In the last episode of the season two of the anime, Lord Shadow got sucked in by the black rose. Leaving his four subordinates down in the worsen country in worry as to where he went. For they had just learned that Black Rose was none other than a portal to one of the many worlds out there.
Will Cid Be All Alone In The New World?
In the conversation with the members of the cult, we also learned a lot about the lore of the fantasy realm, like how magic was a foreign entity that came from different dimensions and led to the extinction of dragons (dinosaurs). And Shadow being sucked in means that he might never come back home to his group, shadow Garden.
However, Beta, being the fervent devotee to Shadow, will find a way to squeeze herself inside the wormhole and travel to the new world. She and Cid will be the only two people from the shadow in the familiar yet unfamiliar. Moreover, Cid will be worrying about his proficiency in Japanese being revealed as Bets absorbs the culture around her and learns the language.
Cid will be worried sick because there is a possibility that Beta might connect the dots and figure he is a reincarnator. Making all his actions look false and devoid of any meaning to anyone in the Shadow Garden. However, that will be Cid’s Opinion since we all know by now how Shadow Garden abandons reason when it comes to him.
But that will be things from Shadow’s point of view and not from Beta, who follows him around. Beta would interpret all the actions of Shadows as if he had fully mastered the new world that they found themselves in without having to try too hard. Adding new notes to her legends about Shadow and his omniscience that knows no bounds.
The two will also do some shoplifting as they will be scrouging the home of an unknown person for clothes. There, Beta will discover a lot about Earth’s culture, or the ecchi side of it at least, and have many questions regarding it. However, it will be up to Cid to guide her in those questions, but he will be failing miserably.
Can Cid Return To His Home?
The leader of the shadow garden will return from the world he used to call home to the world that is his home. However, Cid wouldn’t have many things to recall or feel nostalgic about; only his goals mattered. And since the other world offered him the chance to pursue that, he didn’t think much about the old one.
However, the reason Cid was able to get far ahead with his new life is because of the knowledge he incurred in the old one. He would have gone as far as an Eminence in shadow if not for that. He noted this many times when fighting the otherworldly adversaries and besting them in battle.
Then there is also the question of Cid wanting to return at all, and he originally wanted to be Eminence in Shadow in his world. Back then, he lacked the power and means to achieve that goal, but now, nothing is stopping him from doing that. He could stay in this world and enjoy the benefits that he had reaped from both sides.
Knowing Cid, he won’t be worried about the dilemma he finds himself in and would just wing it. And as he does things with his pace, he will find his way home sooner or later. Or maybe establish the Shadow Garden in the new world and play from behind the scenes.
But with Beta in tow, the leader of Shadow Garden would make attempts to return just to save his face from her. It is serious for everyone around him while he roleplays, and he takes his role-playing seriously, making him want to return to a fantasy world. However, he will be sad to learn that Beta has learned the language by the time they return home.
Still, the things that make the story interesting are the different worldviews of people and Cid’s delusion. He is wrong about many things and lacks any form of realism to see the reality for what it is. But that delusion started everything, and it won’t go away any time soon in the action series.
And those who have read manga and/or light novels know that he and Beta will return home. However, they will be bringing someone that many recognize and will amuse viewers as to what the series has in store.
