Plot Of The Movie
The Couple Next Door follows journalist Pete (Alfred Enoch) and teacher Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they settle into a fancy neighborhood and discover a world full of nosy neighbors and status struggles.
They befriend the couple who live next door, Danny (Sam Heughan), a traffic cop, and his wife Becka (Jessica De Gouw), a yoga instructor, and the two couples grow closer. However, the sexual tension erupts one night and seems to have permanent consequences.
Evie and Pete need the help of their new friends after a catastrophe leaves them grieving. However, emotions between Evie and Danny start to surface as it becomes clear that Danny and Becka are in a relationship that is open.
Pete, Evie’s partner, is pursuing her while carrying a pistol as they escape a cabin in the woods. Danny and Becka are chasing after them; right before the credits start to roll, Pete points a gun at Evie, and Danny jumps to stop him. After hearing a gunshot and not being able to see who, if anyone, was hit, the scene turns black.
Then, as Pete and Evie arrive at their new house in the neighborhood in a moving van and are greeted by onlookers, we cut back to a montage of suburban life.
The Couple Next Door Filming Locations
The Couple Next Door was produced in several locales, which enhanced the series’ realism and aesthetic appeal. The series, which was mostly shot in Leeds, perfectly portrays the feel of an ordinary suburban neighborhood.
More filming took place in Belgium and the Netherlands, offering a distinctive fusion of environments and architectural styles. The show’s unique aesthetic is a result of the diverse multinational cast of places, which combine to create an environment that is both recognizable and a little strange.
You may enjoy these varied locales on your screens when you watch The Couple Next Door in the US!
Leeds
The Couple Next Door was primarily filmed in Leeds, an energetic city in West Yorkshire, England. Leeds was chosen to give the series a more genuine feel, as its suburban surroundings wonderfully capture the ideas of the program.
The architectural styles and varied landscapes of the city offer an adaptable setting for the play. Filming in Leeds allowed the crew to perfectly represent British suburbia, which is essential to the plot and the experiences of the characters.
Belgium and the Netherlands
The series gained more depth as a result of the filming that took place in Belgium and the Netherlands. Belgian director Dries Vos created a distinctive suburban setting by using numerous quarters in the Netherlands, each of which represented a different nation.
This strategy produced a setting that appeals to viewers from a variety of backgrounds because it feels both particular and universal. The surreal aspect of the show is enhanced by its European filming settings, which also heightens its psychological and emotional impact.
In April 2023, a few sequences were taken in Baildon Moor in West Yorkshire, close to Bradford. The region’s natural splendor, which offers stunning views of Rombald’s Moor to the north and the Aire Valley to the south and west, made it the perfect setting for the television series. Significantly, the site is enhanced by a Bronze Age stone circle that is thought to be roughly 3,000 years old.
Director Dries Vos commented on the shooting site via iNews UK. He conveyed gratitude for Baildon Moor’s distinctive and historic features. Furthermore, he underlined how it added to the scenes’ visual complexity.
