Amane notices that Mahiru’s birthdate is approaching from her Identification, so he consults with his friends Itsuki and Chitose for present suggestions. Notwithstanding Mahiru’s assertion that she rarely commemorates her day, she receives the moisturizer and cuddly bear gifts and is overjoyed to receive them.

Shihoko, Amane’s mother, suddenly pays a visit and notices Mahiru dozing off in his bed. She assumes they might be in a relationship or in the early stages of their romance. Mahiru expresses her gratitude for Amane’s loving mother when she departs, confessing that neither of her folks bothered to address her by her maiden name.

They agreed that only in secret can they use someone else’s first name. Amane surprises Mahiru by giving her a backup key. Amane purchases a cake as a treat when Mahiru wins the first position in their exams—another thing she rarely receives from her family.

They eventually start serving each other but quickly realize it’s awkward. Amane makes the decision to try cooking for himself, but it doesn’t work out. Mahiru is glad she has still been needed to prepare meals for them. Itsuki and Chitose persuade Amane to extend an invitation for a Xmas Eve gathering at his place.

Mahiru decides to hide out in her flat until they depart, but on Xmas Day, she asks Amane to show her how to play computer games. Chitose and Itsuki witness the party’s snowfall from the apartment, and when they are astonished to see Mahiru observing the same thing from her private window ledge, they unintentionally realize that she lives right next to Amane.
