Terminator Zero has quickly become one of Netflix’s most popular new sci-fi anime series. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about a possible continuation, but Netflix has yet to confirm a second season. However, the show’s creator, Mattson Tomlin, shared some insights about his plans for the series with The Hollywood Reporter.
In the interview, Tomlin discussed the challenge of working within one of the most famous sci-fi franchises. He made a deliberate choice to leave out the parts of the universe involving Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.
Instead, he wanted to focus on what little has been shown about the rest of the world before and during Judgment Day. Tomlin also mentioned what he hopes to explore if Terminator Zero gets more seasons and the characters he plans to highlight:
“I always have to make it personal. It always kind of comes back to being adopted and the Romanian Revolution and all of this stuff that’s built into me.
In the event that I get to do multiple seasons, it will be a story that follows these three kids as they grow up through this war that eventually evolves into the future war, and how their various relationships to humans and machines are evolving and are radically different from each other.”
Is Terminator Zero Getting a Second Season?
Terminator Zero has received a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, showing that critics are impressed. The series is already among the top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix, and this week, Netflix will release detailed viewing figures.
These numbers will help determine if the series has a good chance of returning for more episodes. The show’s presence in the top 10 is a promising sign.
If Terminator Zero continues, Mattson Tomlin has more projects lined up. He is currently working on Aegon’s Conquest, a highly anticipated HBO series set in the Game of Thrones universe. In the same interview, Tomlin shared that he is “in the middle of writing the pilot.”
The voice cast of Terminator Zero includes Timothy Olyphant (Justified: City Primeval), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), André Holland (Castle Rock), and Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale). Episodes from the series are directed by Masashi Kudo (Bleach).
