‘Stranger Things’ Alum Takes a Trip Back to the ’80s in New Crime Thriller

Noah Schnapp has landed his next major film role following the finale of Stranger Things. The actor is set to headline Stealing From Pablo, a new crime thriller inspired by real events from the 1980s. David Mazouz and Brazilian actor Seu Jorge are also attached to the project, which will be directed by Carlos V. Gutierrez.

The announcement comes as Myriad Pictures prepares to introduce the movie to international buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival. The company will launch worldwide pre-sales for the project during TIFF, meaning an official release date and distribution plans have not yet been announced.

Stealing From Pablo is set in 1980s Florida and follows Red, a teenager living within the foster care system. Alongside his best friend Dylan, Red organizes an underground skateboarding session inside what appears to be an abandoned mansion.

Their seemingly harmless adventure takes a dramatic turn when the teenagers discover that the property belongs to notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Their discovery pulls them into a dangerous criminal world that is far beyond anything they expected.

According to the plot details reported by Deadline via Yahoo, the boys eventually become caught between Escobar’s calculating accountant and a ruthless assassin working for the drug lord.

David Mazouz and Seu Jorge Join the Cast

Schnapp will share the screen with David Mazouz, best known for Gotham, and Seu Jorge, who has appeared in City of God. The three actors headline a cast that gives the project both American television recognition and international appeal.

The movie also reunites Schnapp and Seu Jorge. The pair previously worked together on Abe, the 2019 coming-of-age film directed by Fernando Grostein Andrade. Schnapp is additionally attached as an executive producer alongside Jorge, Alex Cohen and Marco Gomez.

Carlos V. Gutierrez is directing and writing the film, with Fabio Golombek and Shannon Alexander producing for FJ Productions. The production company previously listed the project as a 90-minute thriller inspired by a true story from the 1980s.

Director Explains Why Schnapp and Mazouz Were the Right Choices

Gutierrez believes the two young leads bring something particularly valuable to the story. Discussing the casting, the filmmaker told Deadline that Schnapp and Mazouz’s experience growing up in front of cameras gave them an authentic connection for their best-friend dynamic.

He also pointed to their shared interest in skateboarding as another reason they suited the roles. Gutierrez said, “They both love to skateboard,” describing the pair as a natural fit for the project.

Myriad Pictures executive Kirk D’Amico also highlighted the movie’s commercial potential, describing it as a tense, high-concept thriller built around young characters facing extraordinary circumstances.
