Bruce Campbell has shared a difficult update about his cancer diagnosis, revealing that doctors have given him an estimated prognosis of around five years. The 68-year-old actor, best known for playing Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, first disclosed his diagnosis in March and had previously described his cancer as treatable but not curable.
Campbell discussed his prognosis during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show. While he has chosen not to publicly identify the type of cancer, he explained that his current medical outlook has changed how he approaches both the illness and his career.

During the interview, Campbell described his current situation as
“a five-year deal.”
When host Adam Carolla clarified whether that meant doctors expected him to have approximately five years to live, Campbell responded, “Give or take.”
Despite the prognosis, Campbell said he does not want his diagnosis to consume his life. He explained that cancer can become mentally overwhelming when people spend too much time researching every possible outcome or surrounding themselves with information about the disease.
“I’ve decided though, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it,”
Campbell said. He also described cancer as a “whack-a-mole life”, explaining that the illness can create different complications that require attention over time.
Campbell originally revealed his diagnosis in March, saying the cancer was “treatable” but not “curable.” At the time, he also told fans that he was stepping back from some professional commitments to prioritize treatment.
Bruce Campbell Continues Working Despite His Diagnosis
Rather than stepping away from filmmaking entirely, Campbell is continuing to promote Ernie & Emma, a comedy-drama he wrote, directed and stars in. The film follows a widowed pear salesman who travels to scatter his late wife’s ashes according to her final wishes.
Campbell said having work to focus on has helped him maintain his perspective.
“I got a movie to promote,”
he explained, adding that he feels mentally free to concentrate on the project while promoting it.
Campbell’s career remains closely associated with Evil Dead, where he played Ash Williams across the original film series and Ash vs Evil Dead. He has also appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films and continues to have a role behind the scenes in the expanding Evil Dead franchise.
While Campbell’s latest update is understandably difficult news for fans, his comments make clear that he intends to keep working and enjoying his life rather than allowing his diagnosis to define him.
