The newly released Final Fantasy 14 Nintendo Switch 2 version has experienced a loading performance issue, with Square Enix confirming that some players may encounter longer-than-usual loading screens in certain in-game situations. The developer has identified the cause and is preparing an update to improve performance.
According to a notice shared by Square Enix, the problem occurs when players enter areas with a large number of characters present. The company explained that the issue is related to extended data reloading and cache clearing processes needed to ensure proper rendering. Square Enix is currently testing improvements before releasing the patch.
Square Enix explained that the delays are most noticeable during moments when the screen fades to black, including dungeon transitions, teleporting between locations, reviving after defeat, and using Warp or Aethernet features.

The company stated,
“We have confirmed that in some cases, the data reloading and cache clearing processes required for safe rendering are taking an extended amount of time.”
Square Enix added that optimization work has already been implemented to improve loading speeds under similar conditions.
Despite the issue, Final Fantasy 14 remains fully playable on Nintendo’s new hardware, with the upcoming update expected to improve the overall experience for Switch 2 players.
Square Enix has not announced a specific release date for the patch but confirmed that it is working to release the update as soon as possible. The Switch 2 version is currently available through the Nintendo eShop, bringing the long-running MMORPG to a new platform.
