Nearly 6 Years Later, Cyberpunk 2077 Still Ranks Above New Releases on Steam, Beating Gears of War: E-Day

CD Projekt Red’s 2020 RPG continues its remarkable commercial run, reaching No. 3 globally while Gears of War: E-Day sits at No. 10 amid the Steam Autumn Sale.

Cyberpunk 2077 has once again demonstrated its extraordinary staying power by climbing above the newly released Gears of War: E-Day on Steam’s global Top Sellers chart. The ranking, recorded on October 4, places CD Projekt Red’s nearly six-year-old RPG at No. 3 worldwide, while E-Day sits at No. 10. Steam Store

The result is particularly notable because Gears of War: E-Day is one of Xbox’s major releases for October 2026. However, the Steam ranking measures revenue rather than copies sold, meaning the positions should not be interpreted as proof that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more units than E-Day during its launch period.

CYBERPUNK 2077 BENEFITS FROM A MAJOR STEAM DISCOUNT

One of the biggest factors behind Cyberpunk 2077’s current position is its 70% discount during the Steam Autumn Sale. The RPG is currently listed at $17.99, compared with Gears of War: E-Day’s $69.99 price.

That price difference makes the comparison more complicated. E-Day is also available through Xbox Game Pass, giving PC players another way to access the new release without purchasing it outright.

Even with those factors, Cyberpunk 2077 reaching third place on Steam’s global revenue chart highlights how effectively CD Projekt Red has maintained interest in the RPG years after its troubled 2020 launch.

The Steam surge is only the latest example of the game’s unusually long commercial life. CD Projekt Red confirmed in July 2026 that Cyberpunk 2077 had surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide, including standalone sales and copies included with the Ultimate Edition.

Much of that longevity followed years of post-launch improvements. The 2.0 update significantly overhauled the game’s systems, while the Phantom Liberty expansion provided another major reason for players to return to Night City.

The success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners also helped revive interest in the game, demonstrating how the franchise has benefited from expansion beyond the original RPG.

Gears of War: E-Day remains a major new release, and its Steam ranking should not be treated as evidence that the game is underperforming. The Coalition’s prequel has also received strong critical attention, with reviewers praising its return to the franchise’s classic cover-based action and its technical presentation.

Instead, Cyberpunk 2077’s latest chart position is another indication of how dramatically the RPG’s fortunes have changed since 2020. What began as one of the industry’s most troubled launches has evolved into a long-running commercial success that continues to attract new players years later.
