You have to credit Taylor Sheridan for his amazing talent at storytelling: Shows like Yellowstone and its prequels, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lioness: Special Ops. The man is practically a Dick Wolf equivalent to all sorts of genres, drama, action, and all penned with impeccable coherence and taste.
The recent conclusion of Lioness: Special Ops, a show with Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman, leaves a lot of things to talk about a possible second season. Taylor Sheridan is likely the cash cow for Paramount+, who hit the mother lode when it came to him. So, let’s unpack Lioness: Special Ops to see what’s all the fuzz about besides Sheridan’s evident talent.
Lioness: Special Ops Season 2 Preview
If you’re unfamiliar with Lioness: Special Ops, it is one of those crime action dramas that Taylor Sheridan likes to develop. Except for the fact that this one has a few undertones of reality, while Tulsa King explores a mobster in a rural town, the Mayor of Kingstown explores the jail system corruption.
Yellowstone explores the rise of a landowner’s dynasty; this show focuses on a special operations intelligence program in which women were trained to gather information from Muslim women who wore the traditional hijab to prevent damage and terrorist operations.
In Lioness: Special Ops, Zoe Saldaña’s character, Joe, is in charge of leading the US Central Intelligence Agency to lead the group to gather information in the fashion described above; that’s when Layla de Oliveira’s character, Cruz Manuelos, comes in; she works at a forward operations branch and is sent to the ground to work on that sort of mission.
She’s a rookie and will try to become acquainted and eventually fake a friendship with a suspected terrorist facilitator; that’s when a bunch of elements like orders from the top, the operator’s feelings, and human intelligence element become a melange that’s impeccably woven by Sheridan’s genius when it comes to telling a story.
Since I usually write plot spoilers in my pieces, I will skip the spoilers and tell you to go and watch this show. It’s rated #1 as the novel-scripted series on cable for Paramount+, and after you watch it, you’ll understand why.

Will There Be A Season 2 Of Lioness: Special Ops?
If you watch the show, you’ll notice where the plot takes you, and if you’ve seen Sheridan’s previous work, you’ll understand that he has a knack for creating universes within his stories: He did so with Yellowstone. And by the time of print, there’s no official renovation for the show.
Again, suppose you saw the show, and I won’t give you details on how great this Paramount+ is. In that case, you’ll notice that there’s leeway for either more stories within the Lioness program or to develop a series based on true stories of special operations that focuses entirely on other amazing feats at US intel programs.
With all the interventions the CIA has had over the years, Sheridan and Paramount can take the show any way they want: They could go forward in time and focus on more Middle Eastern conflicts, take it back in time to the Vietnam War era, or even to the early days of the CIA precursor, the office of special services.
Where Is Lioness: Special Ops Going In Season 2?
And why do I say this? Firstly, there’s no official information from Paramount+ concerning this topic, but given the success, it is likely that that company won’t let it go. With such a blank slate, combined with the showrunner’s creativity and the same man who wrote Dennis Villeneuve’s “Sicario,” the possibilities are quite open.
Now, bear in mind that if Special Ops becomes a sort of franchise, it won’t be in the same fashion and style as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, from rival platform Amazon Prime Video; it’d be more in the fashion of the sort of gritty, dark undertoned dramas and conflicts that Sheridan likes to put on screen:
After all, when it comes to special operations and the CIA, not everything is strictly legal, as the “Agency” has a knack for doing black ops stuff.
