The Solo Leveling ice musical is returning to the stage. Solo Leveling on Ice, the live performance based on Chugong’s hit fantasy series, has released a new promotional trailer revealing its updated cast and costume designs ahead of its second run. The show will take place from August 7 to August 17 at Mokdong Ice Rink in Seoul.

Cha Junhwan Takes on the Role of Sung Jinwoo

One of the biggest updates for Solo Leveling on Ice is the new actor playing Sung Jinwoo. South Korean figure skater and World Championship silver medalist Cha Junhwan takes over the lead role, replacing iKON member Kim Jinhwan and performer Hoya, who shared the role during the show’s debut in December 2025.

Produced by Live Arena, the ice musical also stars Kim Yerim as Cha Haein, Jinwoo’s love interest, and Choi Woohyuk as his close friend Yoo Jinho. The newly released trailer also confirms Lee Si Hyung as the shadow soldier Igris, singer Kwon Chaewon as Sung Jinah, and figure skater-turned-content creator Amy as Jinwoo’s childhood friend Joohee.

A Closer Look at the New Costumes

While Live Arena hasn’t revealed the full story for this stage production, one casting choice offers a major clue. Igris has been confirmed to appear, and that’s significant because he doesn’t enter the story until Jinwoo’s Job Change Quest. This is the arc where Jinwoo gains his Shadow Extraction ability and says his iconic line, “Arise.” That strongly suggests the stage play will adapt the story through this major turning point.

Igris new design also stands out. Instead of his familiar armored look with a helmet, he appears wearing a red trench coat and no helmet. The design closely resembles Sian Halat, Igris human form, which was recently introduced in the Solo Leveling: Arise Hunter Origin spin-off manhwa.

Anime and Figure Skating Continue to Cross Paths

The Solo Leveling ice show arrives at a time when anime and figure skating are becoming more closely connected. During the 2026 Winter Olympics, U.S. Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu attracted attention for her love of Chainsaw Man. Meanwhile, fellow U.S. skater Amber Glenn went viral after dressing as Qifrey from Witch Hat Atelier for a competition. Moments like these show how openly many top figure skaters have embraced anime culture in recent years.

New Solo Leveling Content Arrives as Season 3 Remains in Limbo

The return of Solo Leveling on Ice comes at a time when fans have very little new content to look forward to. Reports suggest Solo Leveling Season 3 may not premiere until late 2027 or even early 2028, while the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok manhwa is still on hiatus. In the meantime, spin-off projects such as Solo Leveling: Karma – Moments in Between have helped keep the franchise active.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s live-action Solo Leveling adaptation is still in production. Filming has reportedly been underway since April 2026, with the series expected to premiere sometime in late 2027. Lead actor Byeon Woo-seok, who plays Sung Jinwoo, confirmed in early May that filming was ongoing.

The confirmed cast also includes Han So-hee as Cha Haein, Kang You-seok as Yoo Jinho, and Cha Woo-min as Baruka, the leader of the Ice Elves. Since Baruka doesn’t appear in the original anime until Season 2, his inclusion suggests the Netflix series could adapt more of the story in its first season than many fans expected.

For now, Solo Leveling on Ice remains exclusive to Seoul. As its original run will be in December, the returning show has not announced any international performances or streaming plans. Fans who want to revisit the series can stream the first two seasons of the Solo Leveling anime on Crunchyroll.
